Democratic San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro and former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, a Republican, both expressed optimism on Tuesday that Congress could pass comprehensive immigration reform this year.
Speaking at the Civil Rights Summit in Austin, Barbour said such reform is in the country's best interest, and told reporters it was too early to count the federal legislation out.

Now it's NO immigration until the borders and internal visa over stayers are fixed.
Castro’s mom, Maria, is also a La Raza community organizer.
Haley Barbour hanging out with Castro and 0 at a civil rights summit....pushing amnesty in Austin. Pathetic.
Barbour is another turncoat Ahole.
What the hell is going on with Barbour, anyway. I hadn’t heard that he had gone over to the commie ‘RAT Party.
And, she was/is a major player in la raza I believe. You know things are going to sh** when barbour and castro are on the same page.

Haley, I hardly know ye
Haley ‘Fat Boy’ Barbour ping.
Indeed. I can't believe I used to like the guy.
I had to check with the EDD to see if someone was collecting state disability benefits and I gave them the social security number she used to get the job and I was told that there were at least 10 people in California who were using that specific SS number for employment purposes.
And, of course these people are just breaking the law because of an act of love.
“What Haley Barbour Didnt Tell Fox News: He Lobbied For Mexico On Amnesty
“. According to a Justice Department filing by Barbours former lobbying firm, The Embassy of Mexico decided to retain Barbours services on August 15, 2001, to work on, among other things, legislation that would provide a path to citizenship for foreigners living illegally in the United Stateswhat opponents of immigration reform call amnesty.
Haley Barbour and I will lead the BG&R team, wrote Lanny Griffith, Barbours former business partner, in the filing. According to subsequent filings, Barbours work included building support in the legislative branch for passage of a bill related to Section 245(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. As part of that work, Barbours firm arranged meetings and briefings with Senators, members of Congress and their staffs, as well as Executive Branch Officials in the White House, National Security Council, State Department, and Immigration & Naturalization Service. Barbours firm charged Mexico $35,000 a month, plus expenses.”
Haley needs to head south of the border... permanently.
I like your idea of reform a whole lot better than the one Barbour and his ilk are pushing.
Ha! Let Haley work this hard to get Mexico to pass immigration reform.
I guess people in MS, like in the other states, are usually wrong too.
“Barbour said such reform is in the country’s best interest”
How many times are we expected to buy this tripe? The issue was supposed to be settled when Reagan made his deal. Instead, we got a twenty-fold (at least) increase in the illegal alien population. Every proposal since that has been more of the same.
Very few people in the GOP (and basically none on the other side) are willing to take the position of sending illegals home and not letting them come back. No one wants to offend the admittedly powerful Latino voting bloc, and no one wants to be the target of the inevitable “families ripped apart” stories the media will run 24-7.
It’s going to take, IMHO, some very principled and self-sacrificing politicians, (including one in the WH), who are willing to become pariahs and risk losing power to push through the kinds of reform we actually need - illegal aliens go home, borders secured for real, and anyone wanting to return has to go to the back of the waiting line.
(Sorry if that sounded angry, btw. Been kind of a long day today.)
FUHB.
Naah. Just the politicians who lie their asses off to get elected pretending to be “one of us.”
