Harvey Whittemore Convicted Of Making Illegal Campaign Contributions To Harry Reid

RENO, Nev. — A Nevada powerbroker who headed a billion-dollar real estate company and pulled the strings of state politics as a prominent lobbyist for more than a decade was convicted Wednesday of making illegal campaign contributions to U.S. Sen. Harry Reid.

Harvey Whittemore, 59, could face up to 15 years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines after a federal jury returned guilty verdicts on three counts tied to nearly $150,000 illegally funneled to Reid's re-election campaign in 2007.

Later in the day, U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks declared a mistrial on a count of lying to the FBI after jurors said they were deadlocked on that charge.

Whittemore stood with his arms behind his back and shook his head slightly after the verdicts were read. He was convicted of making excessive campaign contributions, making contributions in the name of another and causing a false statement to be made to the Federal Election Commission.

Each count carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The judge set sentencing for Sept. 23.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Myhre said prosecutors will review the case before deciding whether to refile the charge of lying to the FBI during a February 2012 interview.

Dominic Gentile, Whittemore's lead defense counsel, said the convictions will be appealed to the 9th U.S. Circuit of Appeals. He said a case pending before the U.S. Supreme Court touches on similar issues related to the constitutionality of federal limits on campaign contributions.

Among other things, Gentile said the defense will challenge Hicks' refusal to allow the defense to reference an Alabama case against the Federal Election Commission.

"His conduct was protected by the First Amendment," Gentile told reporters at a news...

Reid should be tried as well. Any politician who truly doesn’t know where the contributions are coming from should be charged with corruption.

As for this case? The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals tells me I won’t hold my breath.

EVERYBODY knows what’s going on. Yet not one politician will call it what it is. If there was justice in this country everyone of Reid’s phones and all the phones of his family would be bugged by the justice department or, at least, the Clark County DA.

It makes me sick every time I see old man Bush and Clinton yucking it up. I know in my heart they’re laughing at us. They probably sit around and talk about the old days when they were all hauling in the bucks and making plans to put Bill and W in the white house.

"Oh, wouldn’t it be nice to see a lot of heads on pikes."

Sometimes. Usually that stuff gets out of hand.

I'd be in favor of a virtual equivalent.

You’re on a roll tonight Mr Robinson!!!

Just think..... This is only what we know about. I can’t help but to wonder what this asshole has done that has yet to be found out.

Straight from OUR wallets to HIS.....

No dammed wonder why he wants to raise taxes on us all. He probably views tax increases as a potential pay raise!

He’s so brazen about it too. He doesn’t even BOTHER to avoid the appearance of impropriety. He just does whatever he wants, knowing full well that he’ll get a total pass by the legacy media. If the Republicans win the Senate this year, the dems will probably then throw his ass overboard since he would have outlived his ‘usefulness’ to them.

“Everybody on the inside of the beltway is married to everybody else on the inside of the beltway. Sorry to say, only one way to truly clean out the toilet bowl that is DC.”

It has been that way for decades, and it goes out of the beltway to the Virginia and Maryland communities where the paycheck comes directly or indirectly from the Feds.

Nevadans need to never elect Reid to anything ever again, not even dog catcher.

And Harry needs to get suited up for prison for the rest of his life.

Which prosecutorial team wants to make a name for themselves ?

If the wonderful citizen researchers keep digging up dirt on old Harry, that should force the issue, IMHO.

While we’re at it - let’s clean out the Senate, starting with the worst crooks.

Just like those thousands showed up at the Bundy ranch, citizens can force this issue.
