This granny will also miss them, although I rarely buy anything any more from anyone. I liked them because their clothing seemed more conservative and timeless than all that other clingy, mismatched, poorly made imported stuff out there.

I think it’s more of an issue of what’s available rather than what at least I would prefer. Looked in some of the store windows in the mall and I wouldn’t have been caught dead in most of their designs or mismatched offerings , regardless of my age.

I will miss them...loved their clothes and they were always helpful in calling around to other stores to get the size and or color needed. Steinmart Boutique and Nordie’s Rack will be happy to pick up their clientele.

They seemed to jump the shark from conservative well-styled clothes suitable for the office to rather formless and boring stuff that cost more and didn’t last as long about 3 or 4 years ago. My wife used to shop there but hasn’t bought anything there in 4 or 5 years - she said it’s not as well made, doesn’t look as nice and costs more.

I agree. Many years ago I used to buy from Coldwater once in awhile. I quit even looking there for the same reason as your wife.

I went to the Celtics game last night. Hadn't been in years. We have cheerleaders now who wear bikinis. Besides doing gymnastics, they also do spread-legged, pelvic thrusts to ear-splitting rap music.
My son played HS basketball 15 years ago and I was stupified to find the same crap back then - in a HS no less.

Wow. My mom wears their stuff.

And that is a large part of their sales and marketing problem.

One day some entrepreneur is gonna figure out how to combine the experience of Mall Shopping for ladies with the cost efficiency and speed of on-line buying.

Things like that have been tried. Online clothing works very well for a young demographic, but as people age and start developing odd bulges, it becomes literally impossible to buy anything without trying it on and probably having alterations done. And the bulging generation has all the money - you can go broke fast selling cheap stuff to kids.

Coldwater Creek got lazy - like many retailers they started manufacturing in Asia, then decided it was cheaper to just buy existing styles that looked pretty good and had decent material without taking the time to focus carefully on their own fit and design. As a result, things that looked good in the catalog looked terrible on the body. We'll see a whole bunch more major retailers heading out of business soon for the same reason. Their corporate parent companies forgot how they became successful and squeezed out a couple of dollars extra profit per garment for a season or two - until the public (who is never as stupid as management thinks) caught on.

I want to thank you all, both positive and critical for your comments. I am COLDWATER CREEK. I am in he last stages of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. No need for earthly clothes much longer. Getting rid of every thing while I still have a little control.

There's alot of money to be made in women's clothing, for the right product.

Last night on "Shark Tank" these two Georgia women developed a slenderizing pair of pants that retails for $139.

Huge margins and the women Sharks struck a deal.

Placing a few niche items like these in retail may be the way to go.

Yep. They used to have well made, kind of artsy clothing that was good for work or anything. The designs were always a bit different from other retailers.

About 5 years ago they seemed to drop all the colorful, whimsical clothes in favor of dull, shapeless, ordinary clothing - the stuff you would find at Chico’s.

I stopped buying for that reason. If I want minimalist designs in ugly colors, I can shop anywhere.
