An influx of immigrants has boosted the Democratic Party, and that trend is set to continue. Even in places where Republicans support legalization of illegal immigrants, the party hasn’t been able to stem those changes, according to a study being released Tuesday. James Gimpel, a professor at the University of Maryland, said in a report being released by the Center for Immigration Studies that many of those in the recent wave of immigrants trail native-born Americans on education and skills and favor a broader scope for government action, which makes them “ideal recruits for the Democratic Party.”

I was encouraged by the number of Hispanic Christians who protested against sodomy in the capital of Rhode Island last year...they were numerous and LOUD.
Frankly, the University of Maryland’s professor may have his own reasons for coming to his conclusion.

He was a bad choice in so many ways. Who was his base that got him through the primaries to be at the top of the Republican ticket?

It would be hard to break the trend because though they possibly could vote against “same sex unions” in general elections, they would also tend to vote for those who give the most in government programs. I believe studies have shown that.
I’ve heard it said before Hispanics dislike Democrats but dislike Republicans more.
Of course, these are general statements to which there are going to be exceptions.
Agree wholeheartedly about Bush. We could have gotten a LOT worse in Gore, who would have opened the borders even quicker. But Bush was a slow cancer, laying the groundwork for our current policies/edicts.
Pat Buchanan got a lot of flack from conservatives and libs as a candidate, but I’m coming to realize how right he was and still is about American culture and our urgent responsibility to protect it at all costs. Pat would have been the most stalwart border/culture guard we could ever have gotten. And in being so, he could have conserved the distinct American culture for perhaps two more decades.

Agreed. Our politicians have become so rotten that they need to be removed from office naked. I no longer believe that the ordinary political processes can cure our political/economic problems. We are being controlled by people who are indifferent to the nations over all welfare and are concerned only about their own personal benefit.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

Saw your post earlier, I read all of those books like “Death of a Superpower”, “where the right went wrong” and others. Great reads.
