Study Shows Ethanol Produces Worse 'Global Warming' Pollution Than Gasoline

Well, this is going to be a heartbreaker for the hysterical global warming crowd. According to a new study, emissions from burning corn are worse for the environment and produce more CO2 or 'global warming' gases than the burning of traditional gasoline.

Biofuels made from the leftovers of harvested corn plants are worse than gasoline for global warming in the short term, a study shows, challenging the Obama administration's conclusions that they are a much cleaner oil alternative and will help combat climate change.

A $500,000 study paid for by the federal government and released Sunday in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Climate Change concludes that biofuels made with corn residue release 7 percent more greenhouse gases in the early years compared with conventional gasoline.

The federal government has already dumped billions of dollars into facilities and programs producing biofuels in the name of preventing climate change but as usual, is having the opposite effect than originally intended.

Just last week, biofuel industry producers told the New York Times 2016 was the year they were looking most forward to bring cleaner energy to the United States. Oops.

“The whole purpose of the Renewable Fuel Standard was to encourage investment to create brand-new technologies that would help the United States become more energy-independent and use cleaner and more efficient fuels. We feel like we are just on the verge of doing that and now the E.P.A. is talking about changing the rules," Executive Vice President of the heavily subsidized biofuel company Abengoa Christopher Standlee said to the paper.

Al Gore, call your office.

Does this mean we will all get a refund for all the extra money we had to pay when it came to filling up the tank?

Well, let’s see here...they are saying ethanol puts more CO2 into the atmosphere, but it was supposed to combat it. CO2 isn’t a pollutant, but ethanol does other damage & costs mileage. So,I guess it benefits a few producers & costs everybody else. Tell us again why we are promoting & using it.

My car’s fuel line actually rusted from the inside out...I suspect ethanol contributed to this.

And don’t get me started on my small engines - mowers, chainsaws, generators, you name it - I have had issues with fuel delivery on all sorts of stuff.

This stuff never used to happen - now I expect it.

I want to know why shameless liberals never lose credibility over this.

The same office liberal who thinks I’m the devil, because I don’t like ethanol, will still think I’m the devil because I don’t believe in global warming.

They have no concept of losing credibility.

It’s really nothing different than paying farmers NOT to grow food, or providing milk price support for Northeastern dairies, or giving special tax breaks for industries that are large contributors (e.g., solar industry) to the Democrat Party and its candidates.

It is nothing more than graft, greed and theft from the American people who pay taxes.

There are so many reasons why LIBs of any bent shouldn’t be given any position of authority, responsibility or power. Their natural position is one of court jester.

As one person put it back in the 80’s, “Using ethanol to stretch your gasoline supply is like using Filet Mignon to stretch your hamburger supply.”......................

That’s OK. They’ll get special double secret dispensation like the migratory bird mix masters do.

Is someone keeping a list of major government mandated policy failures?

Democratcare, the Food Pyramid, and now ethanol when will the people learn that crony-run government is wasteful tyranny?

It doesn’t matter how much damage they do. You cannot kill them.

This may be a new study, but it isn’t new information. Unlike global warming, where dire predictions don’t pan out, predictions about the downside of using ethanol as a major fuel source have come true. This study proves the obvious, but is it enough to stop the craziness? Without crazy, where would Democrats be, and they have so many subsidized farmers and the ethanol industry voting for the craziness?

I spent several hours searching for straight gas for my ‘73 Honda 750 Saturday. No luck.

The author of this article doesn’t know the difference between corn and corn stover. (neither of which is “burned” in producing ethanol, anyway).

They have known this for more than ten years, but the politicians are talking about adding more ethanol.

That can be explained with two words: "Iowa caucuses."

You can buy non-ethanol gasoline at some petroleum jobbers, or you can mix standard gasoline with racing gas (there are hazards to some types of equipment from the extra octane). I did it and my saws run a LOT better. Costs about $10 per gallon.

These ethanol plants could be converted to vodka distilleries. The U.S. could then flood the world market with high-quality, low-priced vodka until Putin cries “Uncle!”
