Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who spoke Saturday at the Maine Republican Convention, was the big winner in the party’s straw poll. Paul took 26 percent of the vote, to 14 percent for the second-place finisher, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
With 690 ballots cast at the convention in Bangor, the order of finish was:
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.): 176
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas): 98
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker: 70
Dr. Ben Carson: 62
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: 60
Jeb Bush: 57
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.): 37
Mike Huckabee: 28
Condoleezza Rice: 26

Don’t the Pauls always win the straw polls? The Paulistas are good at rigging the vote for their guy but have a harder time in the actual election.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Well, he’s winning straw polls and scientific polls as well. Straw polls are not scientific but winning is better than losing.
Wow, Pauls and polls, and Rand Paul is campaigning for Susan Collins.
What a floundering rino he has become.
I think Paul is intentionally running in the middle as a tactic to get elected.
So far to me, Rand has best articulated the focus on doing this.

Since when is coming out as he has moving left on abortion, gay marriage, and the party platform on social issues, being soft on national defense, and sounding so racial as he has recently, “the middle”?
It’s not hard to bus in a few hundred people to vote for you in the straw poll. Ron Paul did it all the time, and used to win the CPAC straw poll every year.
Typically, Ron Paul would get something like 70% in a straw poll, and then in a real election would get about 2 or 3%.
It looks like Rand Paul learned from his daddy.
Maine.....home of those wonderful conservatives Susan Collins and Angus King.....not.
Okay I’m supporting Cruz all the way, and I’m disappointed by the recent antics of Paul.
That said, I will take him any day over Jeb or Crispy Creme any day of the week.
I’m glad to see all the RINOS in the field.
That gives us a chance to get a conservative nominee for the first time in almost 30 years.
I am hoping that conservatives can come together behind Ted EARLY so that we don’t have the endless sniping and “I won’t ever vote for that candidate” that doomed us last time around.
Paul is a libertarian and has his dad’s ground crew going for him. I prefer a man like Ted who is a true conservative and a man of principle
