Yeah, I Wrote the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy Memo
POLITICO ^ | 04/27/2014 | Chris Lehane

I stand by every word of it. And it’s even worse today.

Of the thousands of Clinton presidential records released to the public last week, one among them has received of the bulk of attention: a 332-page memo from 1995. The memo, which offers an in-depth analysis of the right-wing media, describes how conservative conspiracy theories about the Clintons passed from the fringes to the mainstream.

(...)

Let’s go all the way back to the summer of 1995.

At the time, my then colleague (and current business partner) Mark Fabiani and I were working at the White House as lawyers in the counsel’s office and began to receive calls from mainstream media outlets asking us to respond to various bizarre items related to the late Vince Foster, a fellow White House lawyer who had tragically taken his own life in the summer of 1993. At first, we ignored the calls, as there was nothing to the story beyond the terrible loss of one of the president and first lady’s friends. However, as the calls continued without letup, and the nature of the questions became even more bizarre—to the point where we were asked to comment on alleged eyewitness sightings of Foster—we knew we had to get to the heart of the matter and began asking the reporters the basis for their questions. All roads led to a mysterious source—the newly exploding Internet.

This isn’t news. It was known in 1995.

BTW, Lehane is every bit the assclown that Jonathan Chait or Dana Milbank is.

Very impressive, Chris. For a Democrat political consultant creating an enduring lie is like painting the Mona Lisa. That’s an awfully pathetic legacy for honest people, though.

I’m a bit confused. The Internet killed him?

I was certain the Clintons had something to do with it.
My bad.

We should ban the internet. There out a be a law! Write your congressman.

The VRWC began in 1993? At the beginning of the internet?

Seriously how many people got their news from the internet in 1993? How many people were even ON the internet in 1993?

And the EVIL Fox News didn't start until 1995, and even then was very hard to find outside of a select few markets.

Many cable companies refused to even "allow" it.

“...as there was nothing to the story beyond the terrible loss of one of the president and first lady’s friends.”

This guy is dissembling and revising history from the get go in this article.

Foster was in the administration, not just some friend.

Hell man, don’t stop him...he’s on a roll! ;)

It was the AlGore invented internet. The one that existed in Al’s mind. Chrissy got his info there. So likely all his work is invented as well. Facts are such mutable things...

Isn't Lehane suspected of being the operative who dug up the story of GWB's 24-year-old DUI arrest, which the media obsessed over the final weekend of the 2000 campaign?

There was a theory advanced on FR at the time (I forget who came up with it) that the lead came from the FBI files. The FBI files on George Herbert Walker Bush would have had information about FBI interviews with his family, so that's where they could have learned about his son's arrest, and then gone to the court house to get the records. It was such an old story that just going there on a general fishing expedition might have turned up nothing unless they knew exactly what to ask for.

No you didn’t Chris. Hillary knew Clinton corruption was being documented on the internet, and so, being Hillary, she had the grand, tired, dead-horse idea of “flipping it around!.” SO you and others were tasked with coming up with a spin that started with calling the documented corruption a vast right-wing conspiracy of wild-eyed theories, and then tracking them through the internet. That way you could openly track the net reporting of Clinton conspiracies, while claiming you were tracking lies.

Wow, what a sophisitcated plan. Just like all of Hillary’s sophisticated plans. So sophisticated that now, over a decade later, you have to spin it again to try to prevent it from being seen as what it was - reporting on Clinton corruption.

Oh, I’m sorry. Did I forget to call you a pig?

You’re a pig.

trying to whitewash Hillary’s gaffe. Next will come th media pile-on, newly revealed document dump and character assassination campaign so that Matt Laurer can say with a straight face “Wow, Hillary warned us and was prophetic with the VRWC talk.” The Democrats have all of the machinery in place to craft any “truth” they can imagine.

Chris Lehane should study Alamo Girl’s compilation and refute it if he can. I don’t think he would come close.

I’ve had my VRWC certificate framed since 1998. It still sits on top of my desk.

Don't forget the WH staff going through Vince Foster's office right after he committed suicide.

Even the DOPIEST investigator would want to know exactly who went into his office, what they took out, and why.

IF Foster committed suicide in his office that would raise innumerable questions.

If his body was found in Ft. Marcy park, that would raise even MORE questions.

And he was WH counsel. That's "kind of a big deal".

They should have completely sealed off Foster's office, and let NO ONE in until the investigation was complete.

Jeez people, does anyone think that if it were a republican administration that the press would not only not "laugh" at questions, but DEMAND answers.

Could Nixon, Reagan or Bush have gotten away with this? I think not.

18 erased minutes of tapes is child's play.

Missing documents related DIRECTLY to the president and his wife?

I can only imagine the screaming from the press.

So let me get this straight. A libtard starts a conspiracy talking point about a "vast rightwing conspiracy" and he isn't laughed out of town along with Bubba's corrupt wife as some kind of conspiracy nut?

The "VWRC" meme was a partisan witchhunt.

It served the Clintons to use federal agencies to harass "the opposition".
