Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Tuesday joined a growing list of out-of-state political figures who have endorsed Portland pediatric neurosurgeon Monica Wehby in her race for the Republican Senate nomination. . .

Wehby's chief rival in the Republican primary, state Rep. Jason Conger of Bend, has been promoting himself as the real conservative in the race and has been emphasizing his opposition to abortion rights. Wehby has said that she supports a woman's right to choose.

While knowing little about Oregon politics, let me guess:

Conger is the TEA Party candidate; Wehby is the GOPe candidate. Am I right?

Is Newt’s endorsement a plus?

"What do you do about Newt?"

Old news and a has-been. He's about as effective as Karl Rove.

Is Newt’s endorsement a plus? The Oregonian is pushing RINO Wehby as hard as they can. There's an article on her every other day, with a near blackout on the Tea Party candidate. Since all candidates campaign to the right of what they actually believe, this woman could be Satan for all we know. We already know she's pro-baby-killing.

Did you see her latest ad? It's powerful...even some in pro-life circles are supporting her. She's not 100% anti-abortion, like you and I would like..but she's opposed to abortion on demand....

And she has one of the best bumper-stickers ever.

Just saw the high heel ad. I felt bad for Conger’s chance’s, but glad Bizerkley will be gone.

And she has one of the best bumper-stickers ever.

Every candidate campaigns to the right of their actual beliefs. She has NO voting record to allow us to know where she will end up.

Even her political contributions reveal nothing conservative. She donated to the American Medical Association Political Action Committee, which donated to Suzanne Bonamici, DeFazio, Kurt Schrader, Earl Blumenauer and Diane Feinstein in 2012. A true conservative wouldn't give money to the AMA.

The GOP has virtually no bench in Oregon, so if Newt was endorsing a “pro-choice” candidate who otherwise had a conservative record and who had a strong chance of defeating the liberal Democrat Merkley in the general election (such as, say, Congressman Greg Walden, who is too liberal for his conservative district but would be acceptable as a statewide candidate), I would be willing to give him a pass (after all, we’re talking about Oregon, not Wyoming). But Wehby is a social liberal with no record whatsoever, has given no indication of being a conservative (she’s of the “mend it, don’t end it” school of Obamacare capitulation), and has very low odds of winning the general, so why would Newt endorse the RINO Wehby over proven conservative Jason Conger?

I really liked Newt from like 1993-1997—he thought outside the box, fought to increase the influence of conservatives, and did his best to convince persons from all backgrounds and all walks of life that the Republican Party was better attuned to their principles and needs than the Democrats. But for over 15 years now, Newt has provided nothing but disappointments. I’m glad I never got fooled into joining the Newt for President movement, even when so many FReepers were claiming that Newt was “the only conservative who could stop Romney” (which, I guess, is why he only won one primary, huh?).

There was serious cognitive dissidence on that one. Newt's name was mud a year before the 2012 primary, then he was suddenly he was a "bold Reagan conservative" because he says so. Impy thought the Newt fan club would realize the guy was going nowhere after he got crushed on Super Tuesday, whereas I thought the Newt fans were so delusional they would continue to claim he'd somehow win the nomination after losing 20 states and winning 2. Turned out my prediction was correct. Hell, a bunch of them STILL were living in their imaginary world of a "brokered convention" after Romney had won most states and the rest of the candidates dropped out.

Disturbingly, there's still some die hard "Newt 2016" posters on FR to this day.

Heh. That's why most of the Newt supporter talking points were invalid.

Santorum endorses incumbent RINO Senator Arlen Specter from his own state after Bush twists his arm = UNFORGIVABLE, treasonous, sellout behavior!!!!

Newt endorses even worse RINO candidate Dede Scozzafava in another state on his own accord = So what?

I was surprised there even WAS a Newt fan club. I thought everyone agreed it was past time for him to disappear. I honestly question whether he was even better than Romney. I was flabbergasted that he became the favorite around here.

He made Rick Perry seem like a good candidate in comparison. Boy his campaign was pathetic, but not as pathetic as those that continued to back it even after it was apparent that Santorum had become the main challenger to Romney.
