We Must Do It For The Children
TRC Magazine ^ | 4/30/31 | Chuck Ness

In the mid 1980’s, politicians convinced the citizens in state after state that lotteries would supply the needed cash for their education systems. The voters couldn’t resist the campaigns that promised to improve the education of their children. As of today, 44 states are involved in some sort of lottery where a portion of the earnings are used specifically for the education of their children. Unfortunately, the expected jackpot never materialized for the purpose it was intended. Instead we learned that state after state has been caught using the funds for programs other than education. Even if all the money was used as allocated, it would fall substantially short of the promises made to the voters.

Politicians also made the promise that the children would be the big winners if the people just voted to legalize gambling in their states. So in state after state the voters either voted for initiatives or elected officials who passed...

>>I think, no I know you are wrong. You know why I know your wrong MEB? Because we legislate morality all the time. What you believe is a lie born from hell and taught to humans by evil people who cannot stand the Christian morals.

Perhaps we are looking at it wrong. You can’t legislate morality, but your certainly CAN legislate immorality!

Perhaps I should have said the government can’t legislate MY MORALITY.
The Lord God gave mankind a specific set of rules to live by, the lord Jesus tried to interpret those rules for us, I try (not always successful) to live by those rules.
I do not recognize, nor do I chose to live by the laws and rules that are set by corrupt legislators or corrupt courts that are contrary to the laws of God.
In most cases; where it will not harm society I try to render unto Caesar what is his, in some cases I ignore Caesar or just tell him to go to hell.
And yes; I have suffered the consequences of of my opinions and actions, as I am reasonably sure I will do in the future when I get stubborn again.

Not every law. Some laws make sense in order to have a civilized society where every one is free to chose how they want to live as long as it hurts/impacts no one else.
Prohibition is a good example of bad man-made law that made, what some would say were bad habits even worse. It actually led to more drinking and more violence in society than they had before.
Another example of bad man-made law is ROE v WADE; it impacts, with lethal effect the third party that nobody ever wants to mention in the courts of man, the unborn child who will never get their day in court.
Drug laws, liquor laws, gambling laws, prostitution laws; these are all laws that try to regulate human behavior and that can't be accomplished short of an extreme police state.
Even though some of these things are illegal some people still do them and some people will always do them.
And before you ask; no I don't do drugs, never have, liquor only in very moderate amounts, don't gamble at all, worked to hard for what I have and prostitutes never interested me, been a disgustingly happily married man for 36 years now.
Some things can be sensibly legislated and acted into law.
Safety: Storage of hazardous waste, speed limits, safety equipment requirements, licensing requirements for engineers and pilots or drivers, and many other items in the same category.
Property rights: Supreme Court pretty well destroyed those on eminent domain.
Voting Rights: Although I disagree on some points there.
Civil Rights: Been there done that, it's called THE BILL OF RIGHTS.
There are many other categories of course; so obviously not all laws are useless for a civilized society, but many of the ones that have been shoved down our throats by an out of control congress and executive ARE USELESS and should be ignored at the least and overturned at best.

We have won no victory for Christ if we somehow automagically swap one nanny state for another one. Because we are exalting Caesar, not God.

This is why the nonintuitive road of libertarianism is a necessary part of any restoration. Do we want to be Christian or do we want to be a biblesque version of secular humanistic?

Have we forgot the Hitlerjugend? What was its purpose but to indoctrinate national socialism. But indeed what is the purpose of a school but to indoctrinate children in values and morality. All the while the public schools treat education as a “process,” where the children are left free to believe what they will.
