Incumbent Senator Lamar Alexander and his Republican primary challenger Joe Carr both far outdistance the top two Democratic hopefuls in Tennessee’s U.S. Senate race, but Alexander is the stronger of the two GOP candidates.
A new Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Tennessee Voters finds that Alexander earns 50% support versus Democrat Terry Adams’ 26%. Ten percent (10%) like some other candidate, while 15% are undecided. (To see question wording, click here.)

Carr is trying to primary Alexander, but he suffers from lack of funds.
Most TN Democrats can consider Lamar! their Senator (and Corker, for that matter). He does such a good job pandering to them. Too bad we Conservatives don’t have a Senator.
...and from an open primary and from no runoff. The fix is in.
If you’re losing 2:1, I don’t think it needs a “fix” to make it happen....

I’m sure you would rather have a more conservative senator than Lamar. We all would.
But IMHO if we can get control of the Senate, and move some more real conservatives in (like Brannon in NC), I think you will see a shift in the ideology of guys like Lamar back to a more conservative bent.
For sure, we have some real RINO senators, but they are just swimming with the tide. If we get the tide moving in our direction, these plastic RINOs will hop on the bandwagon, too.
I’m not referring to just this race. With the set-up in this state, it’s always the most liberal RINO that wins the nomination (be it Governor or Senator). We’ve got to reform the way we nominate candidates.

We don't need to win every primary, just enough to elect a dozen or so real leaders like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee. A lot of the wishy-washy will fall in line our of fear. A few may even grow or rediscover the spine they once had (e.g. Orin Hatch).
Lamar! was a liar from the get-go. He was AWOL when asked to stop Al Gore back in 1984. After he announced his permanent retirement from politics in the ‘90s, he breaks his promise and allows himself to be a tool for the Rove/Establishment wing and lies again to GOP voters that he’ll be a Conservative. He lies once more about serving more than two terms (from his own book: “Two terms and OUT !”). He ran in 2008 like he was the Democrat incumbent and bends over backwards to cater to the liberal minority when they’re no longer influential. I haven’t voted for him since 2002 (and only in the general) and I won’t ever vote for him again. He’s a phony, a fraud, a liar, and will never be “forced rightward” when he’s wholly a lackey of the big gubmint cause.
Except Donnelly was a serious nominee in IN as a sitting Congressman. The Democrat Party in TN is dead statewide and desultory nobodies with no money and no support get nominated. In fact, they’re such a powerless farce that in 2012, a Conservative, anti-gay rights activist (to the right of Corker) got the Senate nomination. The Dems tried to run him off the ballot, but he stayed put. I voted for him over Corker as a protest. Not since 2002 have the Dems contested Lamar!’s seat with a supported nominee and not since 2006 have they contested the other Senate seat or the Governorship.
Alexander has always gone the Liberal way. He was Poppy's Sec of Education as well as his short tenure as President of University of Tennessee. He was also one of the Republicans cheering on Sundquist policies including Tenncare and the state income tax IIRC. Alexander was governor for the huge failure 1982 Worlds Fair and he was also a prime supporter of Whittle Communications in Knoxville which left the city with another problem in the end.
I also voted for Mark Clayton-D over Corker last election as it was the right choice. Clayton ran on a Conservative platform and Corker ran as a Liberal Demapublican.
why are they going straight to the final and not bothering about the primary ???
are they pushing Lamar! ???
have they asked how Joe Carr stacks up against Ball ???
