During the Vietnam war, a suspicious individual on the Dover AFB flightline would barely cause a write up in the base paper. How times have changed.

Will do. I still have a feeling it’s already over. It could be anything from a disgruntled worker to a terrorist attack. Heck, the last time we had an active shooter exercise my wife was marched out of her office at gunpoint when someone got his signals crossed and thought that the exercise had gone “real-world.”

"As a precautionary measure, base officials implemented base lockdown procedures and instructed all personnel to shelter in place."

Public affairs offices are sometimes funny when speaking civilian to civilians.

Need to let everyone carry. I know it would be a logistical nightmare for the AA&E Inspectors, but damn...

I have heard bldg 706 might be on the northern part of the base. Supposedly, there are a lot of flight operations there. I am posting what someone told me.

That is pathetic (as usual). Our military should never cower in fear of anyone or anything. Open/concealed carry should be at will on all military bases, and the base should be willing and able to call out all willing volunteers as needed for security.

It’s Thursday. Aka false flag day.

Either that, or Hussein inspected the base and glimpsed a strip of bacon darting into the bushes.

We did the “active shooter training” at JB Andrews 2 weeks ago. They list the following responses: 1. Run away 2. Hide 3. Fight.

I also cringe when I hear “active shooter”!

At least those options give some flexibility. Truth is you won’t know the circumstance and a default shelter in place is not the right answer most of the time and in fact is often the worst answer. Sometimes, maybe.

Shelter in place is really designed to protect the responding forces whose rules of engagement are usually exceptionally loose — way more generous than what our armed forces have to deal with.

Thanks for your service.

"How about ordering all personnel to 'lock and load'?"

On an air base, that would certainly make many daily tasks interesting and "sheltering in place" probably the smartest thing to do (see hopping mad airmen wanting to divorce weapons after realization of one of the soldiers' burdens). Never heard "lockdown" or "shelter in place" on any post or base myself, but public affairs can be humorous with speech at times.

Partially. The main base area is still “locked-down.”

Lockdown a procedure/word taken from prisons when the convicts started to riot or cause problems.

Today that means forcing unarmed people to go in rooms or homes, lock the doors, and pray that an armed killer doesn't get into the room, you are in.

Just order fuel specialists, air frame techs. and the like to carry at all times. That will keep all threats and other personnel from bothering them (see going postal). Meanwhile, in the Army,...

“Private, leave your weapon with Sgt. So-and-So! That’s an order!” [While Private is away, Sgt. Politics—a lifer who intimately knows a major in HQ—hides the weapon. Private is later ordered to return to Sgt. Politics.] “Private, where’s your weapon? Come with me! You’re in deep ____!”

So much time. So much fun wearing all of that gear 24/7 while doing wonderful details like digging in.

Security should be near, and high speed. Maybe a policy change there would be good.

Two hours in and a MILITARY BASE has not resolved the issue of a suspicious person(s) seen on base? Amazing.
