The Obama administration on Wednesday claimed the new healthcare law helped cut the number of deaths in hospitals by 15,000 in 2012.

Data from the Department of Health and Human Services also found about $4 billion in savings compared to the previous year.

The report also found while 30-day Medicare hospital readmission held at a steady 19 percent between 2007 and 2011 that number dropped to 17.5 percent by 2013. According to HHS that meant 150,000 fewer hospital readmissions among Medicare beneficiaries between January 2012 and December 2013.

Heres the real reason why for the 30 day readmission drop that the article fails to mention:

Under the Affordable Care Act's Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program, hospitals that readmit "excessive" numbers of Medicare patients within 30 days of discharge now face significant penalties. The maximum penalty is 1% of a hospital's Medicare reimbursement, but that will increase to 3% in 2015

I guess they’re sending them home to die, or not even admitting them to begin with...

Yeah....I can believe that - sure. All of it. True!

The reason is ObamaCare ain’t paying for hospital stays longer than a fart, and the peeps are being sent HOME to die.

No un-authorized deaths will be allowed without prior approval of the “Health committee”.

When I was incarcerted in a hospital, they kept me until the insurance company got on their case. I can't imagine why a senior would want to stay in a hospital any longer than necessary....they're germ factories.

If the gov is now saying "cut back on the unnecessary days", less people will die because of the hospital.

“Lower hospital deaths”

More people are dying at home due to the delays in seeing a doctor for treatment.

Strange that they can provide a number for a “reduction in deaths” but yet can’t provide a real number for individuals that have enrolled in Obamacare and paid a premium.

The Obama administration on Wednesday claimed the new healthcare law helped cut the number of deaths...

well, as long as it's a credible source...who are we to argue? (obvious sarcasm)

So we pay the HHS ONE TRILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR to be a propaganda spokesman for Obama and Obamakill?

Kill the HHS and cut the $4 trillion government beast down by 80% before they kills us.

If you don’t admit people they don't die in the hospital.

Home deaths are not included in these numbers, just like those who are not seeking work aren't wrapped up in the unemployment numbers..

Amazing it has managed to do all these things. Just wait until the numbers after it actually took affect come in. The only possible number they could have would be for the first few months of the year. How can they claim anything for 2012 when it wasn’t even in effect then? What exactly was in effect other than keep kids on until 26? Actual policies were not in place until the 1st of this year.

Patients come in and are placed on ‘observation’ status in the ER. They are NOT admitted particularly if they have been in the hospital within the last 30 days. They are stabilized and sent home and them home health (which is seeing massive cuts and hence people leaving in droves) has to deal with them.

It is a similar version of what the VA is doing in Phoenix and Fort Collins. As long as the paper work doesn’t reflect it, it doesn’t exist
