HEARNE, Texas (AP) The nephew of a 93-year-old Central Texas woman shot and killed by a police officer says his aunt fired two shots before the officer shot her.
Roy Jones told KBTX-TV (http://bit.ly/1izkcTq ) of Bryan and College Station for a story aired Friday that he had taken his aunt Pearlie Golden to renew her driver's license Tuesday, but she was denied after failing her test.
As Jones took his aunt back to her Hearne home, he could tell she was upset by the denial, he said.
Back at her house, Jones said he was sitting with his aunt on her front porch when Golden demanded her keys back. He refused, so Golden went into the house and got her .38-caliber handgun. Jones dashed into the house and called police, he told the station.

This needs to be investigated by an external agency to make sure this story checks out.
The mayor of this town is an absolute horse's ass.
If this is true, you’re right, good shoot, case closed. It’s unfortunate that it happened, but they did what they had to do.
The cops that beat to death that L.A. bum ON VIDEO CAMERA (the guy who called out, “Dad, help me..!”) were let-off Scott-free.
Fired, but no time, no fine.
Nothing.
This does not sound like a bad shoot. Old age does not entitle you to act like a jackass waving and firing a gun because you’re mad at DMV.
Idiot. Leave the area. Come back when she is not pissed. Call the cops? Really? Is this guy in her will?
I feel extremely sorry for the police officer that had to do this. This job can take a great toll on the officers involved, even if their actions are justified.
I feel extremely sorry for the police officer that had to do this.
He has done this before so he is used to it.
Not LA but Fullerton in neighboring Orange County. The DA for OC decided to be prosecutor instead of letting the more experienced assistant DAs handle the case and made a lot of mistakes. That is why the ex-Fullerton cops are free.
A 93 yo can shoot and kill someone with a .38 everyday of the week. Sounds like the old lady was off her rocker or perhaps her meds.
Was the right thing to do get shot for leaving with the keys?
Or was the right thing to do to hand over the keys and let her kill some entirely innocent pedestrian?
He thought that calling the police would bring her back to her senses.
Apparently he had too high an opinion of her rationality.
The idiot is the one who pulls out a weapon for no good reason.
A pistol is not a plaything.
You think those were mistakes?
So were some FReepers who were ready to hang the cop without enough information.
People are killed by stray bullets from dumbass wild firing. All. The. Time.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Old age is not a free pass.
You’ve got no cop to hang here, so you’ve got to change the subject. Pathetic.
I have to think the nephew could have done a little better. "He could tell she was upset" ... she's 93 ... think fast.
The average person would not assume that a little old lady would murder her own kin over a set of keys. This is not a normal assumption.
“Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Old age is not a free pass.”
At some level I disagree. Old age/young age, really no difference... Suppose you had a 6 year old waving a gun about and firing off rounds. Would you expect the cop to protect his own ass and plug the kid? Same with an old lady...
What I would expect would be for the cop to defuse the situation. Maybe back off a little and let things cool off. The kid or the woman is not going to hit you unless your a complete idiot. Nobody has to die...
A good cop will handle this correctly. Most of today’s cops will not. I personally think it”s the training and the type of people they hire. If you can’t deal with an irrational person, you shouldn’t be on the force.
You might not think of a gun, but she was upset and this was a major life milestone. Now you just denied her, then off she goes. What’s she up to now? Stay with her! Ironically, it makes me think of my grandkids. I read their minds all the time.
I have found it disturbing how some allegedly rational FReepers will lambast the “lame stream media” for inaccuracies and downright lies, EXCEPT when it comes to a law enforcement officer. Then they are willing to believe the worst, without even questioning the source of the posted article.
I have even seen them take the press release of a defense attorney as gospel.
Of course, we always have the sick, juvenile attempt at humor by some individuals to make a post about shooting a dog, when it had nothing to do with the article that was posted.
