No Immigration Reform in Sight for 2014

Immigration enforcement is in chaos, a well-known opinion of conservatives, independents, and liberals for more than a decade. Add to this truism, the fact that comprehensive immigration reform in Congress is in chaos, the Senate Bill S-744 and the House of Representatives Democrats’ mirror bill HR 15, are both dying a slow death.

The nation is in a state of chaos — Syria indecision, Nigeria Islamic terrorist murders and kidnappings, Bengahzi killings of four Americans, IRS weekly scandals, Veterans’ Administration scandals, EPA employee pornography watching on taxpayer time, Keystone pipeline fiasco, and the Ukraine uncertainty to name a few causes of chaos.

Any immigration reform, comprehensive or incremental, faces the momentous question: Do the legislators and the American people trust President Obama to faithfully obey and enforce the laws of the United States? The answer does not bode well for immigration legislation.

The American people have little interest in immigration. Man-in-the-street questions show the average American has no idea about local, state, or federal government, let alone who their political leaders are, including who is the vice president of the United States. Young people, even those with college degrees, have little knowledge of American history and world geography.

An April 10, 2014, report in TheNew York Times tells how illegal alien crossing in one sector of the southern border has increased. The story’s headline, “Hoping for Asylum, Migrants Strain U.S. Border,” but this is an infinitesimal part of the immigration chaos story.
