My guess is that Rep. Gowdy took the job because he believes that there is something there

The Benghazi hearings carry political risks and rewards for both sides:

1) The GOP has to put new facts on the table, as Charles Krauthammer indicated.    The hearings will get old very fast unless there are new revelations about what happened that night; and,

2) The Democrats cannot minimize that 4 Americans, including the first US Ambassador since 1979, were killed.

Rep. Gowdy's selection confirms my suspicions that there is "something there".    I don't think that he would have accepted the job unless he felt that there was something to investigate.

Under Rep. Gowdy's leadership, the committee will subpoena people who will answer under oath some of the questions still unanswered, especially about then-Ambassador Rice and the video.

Whatever comes of this committee, the members must make no stem-winder speeches. The facts must speak for themselves. It works no other way. That goes for us in the general public, too. Keep your mouth shut at work and only point passively to new facts. Don’t say, “I think Obama is a traitorous rat! I hate that SOB!” It just makes you look biased and crazy.

Do say, “The emails released last week clearly show the ‘Video’ talking points came from the Whitehouse. I wonder why they lied to us?” In other words, be analytical...not emotional. It’s our ony chance.

With all of that said, it is quite likely Obama let those men die in Benghazi, so his campaign message wouldn’t be spoiled.

One of his kiss-ass minions knows excactly what went down that night in the White House. Cracking that person and getting him/her to spill the beans is the key to this investigation. It will take skill, pressure, and some luck to make that happen. I’ll say this. If Gowdy can’t do it, no one can.

By the way, I’ve read that the ‘Video’ message started to go out of the White House even before all four men were dead. In other words, Obama’s first response was regarding what to say, not what to do. Nice job, Mr. President.

[They used the target designator because] I believe they thought there was assistance on the way. INTERVIEW THE SURVIVORS!

Yes, interview the survivors. But target designation on a dynamic battlefield with many moving targets yeilds position data that is HIGHLY perishable --measurable in a very few minutes or more commonly in seconds.

Like you I believe they did have faith that some help would arrive at SOME point, but that still absolutely does not at all explain why they would be using a laser target designator, especially as they fought off DOZENS of attackers:

Using it has the effect of pointing back to your own position --something that SEALs all know.

Their use of this tool indicates they believed or were lead to believe there was an immediate source of help in-bound or on the ground, nearby.

Priceless name recognition exposure to rep. Gowdy as chairman of Select Committe. He should milk it for all it’s worth. You are looking at a future presidential candidate. IMO he is a better speaker than any republican right now. He does his home work, remembers every detail and delivers it extremely effectively.

I'll second that!

The video of the press conference where he ended by saying "I'm surprised anybody bought it" - you'd have to be dead not to be riled up about it all after hearing that.

Whose house is on fire - Gowdy or Boehner?

Yes, magnificent speech. And smartly punctuated with a tap of his papers and turn on the heel departure. No questions from the stunned gaggle, left to ruminate on a smack down delivered by an adult.

Fabulous.

Not sure why Kerry even matters - he wasn’t there when any of this happened. Concentrate on the Lying Women of the Night: Hillary and Rice, for starters.

Does anyone know when this Committee will begin its work?

He is a good choice. He’s very smart. Issa seems smart enough, but there seems to be something missing in his performance. Maybe it’s judgment or preparation - I’m not sure exactly what it is, but there’s something lacking in his approach. I’m happy to see that someone like Gowdy has taken the spotlight on this issue.

Love this man. Hope he considers going back to the hairstyle in this picture...it's on his Facebook page. Or the hairstyle where his hair is cut short, and combed forward..saw that in a picture he took at one time. Visuals are important, and I'm sure he's aware of that.

Most of all, God bless Trey Gowdy and his family. He fights for We the People, and he has sharp teeth. AND, he knows his business.

There were reports that we had one or two drones over that city. From what I remember they stated the drones were not armed though. Perhaps the SEALS’s saw the drones and thought they were armed ? Then again it might have been dark at that time.

Several issues w/Issa, especially the fact that he is not an
attorney in a position that calls or one.

Holder? Fugett bout it!

But if even the stupid republicans come out to vote in 2016, and we get a repub Prez, there will be a new chief at justice. And statute of limitations will not have expired for Ms Lerner.

The hearings will get old very fast unless there are new revelations about what happened that night...

It's a legal investigation into why Americans were murdered while those in power watched.

People who might get bored without 'revelations' need to read a book, go to the movies, or dream about being in high school again. Which is where they belong...

“the committee will subpoena people who will answer under oath”....

Only if they show up or plead the 5th Amendment to protect themselves.

Gowdy is no fool and I am certain he will turn over every rock to get to the bottom of the scandal. He is a seasoned prosecutor and knows how to ask the right questions. Time will tell
