Former U.S. President Bill Clinton accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of attempting to "re-establish Russian greatness," warning world leaders they are perhaps not dealing with a rational foreign-policy thinker.
"Putin wants to re-establish Russian greatness, not in Cold War terms - in 19th-century-empire terms," Clinton said during a question-and-answer session at the Peter G. Peterson Foundation's annual Fiscal Summit on Wednesday.
Some of Putin's recent comments have stirred concern within foreign-policy circles. Over the past weeks, he has repeatedly referred to regions making up southeast Ukraine as "Novorussia," or "New Russia," and he has said Russia has a right to intervene on behalf of ethnic Russians living in those areas.

Countering Putin, if it becomes necessary, requires the decisive actions of a nation that values its own strength and place in the world. Drain-circling America isn’t that nation anymore. Russia and China are once again advancing their military numbers and combat readiness. This country, OTOH, wants to populate its military with transgender freaks.
The west including the US and Victoria Nuland poked a sharp stick in the hornets nest that is Ukraine and is now standing back in horror and confusion because the hornets are all buzzing around looking for someone to sting.
Clinton is wrong again. Putin doesn’t want a 19th century tsarist state. He wants a fully operational Soviet Union 2.0, in a world with a greatly weakened USA.

I am still amazed at the stupid people, especially here on FR, that have no idea that the DC elitists started this.
Information from Bill Clinton, yea right.
He looks like the last days of pomposity....sick and creepy.

Der Slickster, you’re a little late....Sarah’s been warning us about Putie for some time, now.
The parallels they try to use with the Ukraine just don’t fly with me.
1. The Ukraine was part of Russia LONG BEFORE the Soviet Union. It goes back to the 1700’s, and actually the association goes back much longer than that. So, it might compare best with one nation preventing a section of its own country from seceding.
2. My other objection has to do with which is the legitimate government of the Ukraine? Is it the one that was voted in but ousted? Or is it the one that was not voted in but had the power to oust the previous one?
This is not easily disentangled. It is not as clear cut as some are trying to make it.
Say what you will about Putin, but from a pure Russian national interest perspective, he's being very rational.
