Conservatives seek to regain control of Republican agenda

Although many Republicans are optimistic about their chances in this year’s elections, some of Washington’s leading conservatives gathered Thursday to privately vent frustrations about what kind of party they will be left with after November.

The group, alarmed by a resurgence of the GOP establishment in recent primaries and what activists view as a softened message, drafted demands to be shared with senior lawmakers calling on the party to “recommit” to bedrock principles.

Some of those principles laid out in the new document — strict opposition to illegal immigration, same-sex marriage and abortion — represent the hot-button positions that many Republican congressional candidates are trying to avoid as the party attempts to broaden its appeal.

Several attendees said they fear that elected Republicans, even if they succeed in retaining control of the House and winning the Senate majority, would cast aside the core conservative base.

Count on it.

Matt Bevin could sure use some support right now.

Its sad to see Cruz and Palin sitting this one out and allowing Mitch McConnell to win next Tuesday.

At least they were in for Sasse this week in Nebraska.

But they are AWOL on defeating Lindsey Graham in SC.

Paul meanwhile supports McConnell. At least he supported Brannon the other week in NC.

If these folks would consistently support conservatives in all races, it would help more conservatives win.

When Paul Ryan’s budget that took from Veteran’s benefits and gave to illegal aliens was passed by a Republican controlled Congress, we saw there was little difference between the current Republican Party and the Democrat Party.

IMHO, any country that values its illegal aliens more than it does its Veterans is a country that has lost its way.

Duh. “Once burned, twice shy.” We’ve seen so-called “conservative” weasels win elections and immediately get in bed with the Socialist Democrats to show how nice they were. Conservatives are sick of wasting their votes on these quislings.

I hear ya. But even if every TEA Party This or TEA Party That implodes and disappears...

The American TEA movement remains unscathed. Millions of us know where we stand without having membership cards in our wallets.

The morning Joe/Michael Steele wing of the GOP is for : raising federal minimum wage, climate change controls, same sex marriage, even more federal laws dictating pay(lawsuits), amnesty,....Hillary.

Its very difficult to separate them from Dems.

Seek to?

Who in the GOP lineup for 2016, is a bushmccainromney?

None

They are old and in the past

They even know amnesty is a deal breaker, if they’re interested at all in that

And BTW, the Clinton’s are not aging well

I also am very optimistic about many things. But as for American Constitutional conservatives being in the GOPe driver's seat...

Well, thanks for your optimism and bright outlook on this.

I am GOPe and we want practical common sense solutions to today’s problems. Most of the time, these solutions tend toward conservatism but we listen to all proposals first and evaluate each on the merits.

The conservatives want conservative, dogmatic solutions that have worked in the past to rebuild America.

The conservative method is all fine and good, but you guys want to win with 51% or less and jam your theocratic dogmatic agenda down Americans throats without convincing them that it is right first.

This is why no one likes you. You tend toward being screaming bullies. And this is why you fail.

I would ask people who view themselves as “conservative” to think deeply about what, exactly, they seek to conserve. For example, does that include conserving big government?

The root of many issues of government over-reach and government intrusion, and outright tyranny is found in the fact that government has given itself the power to create near-infinite amounts of money out of thin air by which it can pay for just about anything its politicians and bureaucrats want.

It is bad enough that we have a government that is big enough that it can enjoy thuggery by bureaucrats in suits with clipboards and reams of regulations, each having the effect of law. We have government that has enough money that it can allow these bureaucrats to entertain their dark side worries about theoretical threats to their fiefdoms and create small private armies of thug enforcers. How else do we get to having BLM sniper teams?

Near-infinite money buys near-infinite government. The fastest path to a government that is more restrained by its enumerated powers is to severely restrict the ability of government to spend money, or to create money out of thin air.

The sad truth about this is that forcing government back to a size where taxpayers control the purse strings also means we must cut the money we spend on the military. Too many “conservatives” relish US military power and will squawk at any cuts. Cuts must come. We cannot afford the current military force. We must know that when our military cuts back, other countries will rush in to stake out their own turf.

Every day more people are coming to the judgment that a carefully organized effort to repair the constitution via the States’ power to propose and ratify amendments has less risk to our liberty and prosperity than the present trajectory of the federal government and especially the federal bureaucracy, who are too often thugs with clip-boards and their own SWAT teams.

Thank you! Post of the Month!

Let's see..."theocratic dogmatic agenda"; that came off your typewriter in an automatic, rehearsamatic kinduv way. Do you mean Christian FReepers?

And you are just wrong and silly to say no one likes us. We are all very likable and FRiendly. What newspapers do you read? What is a bush doctrine? Who do you mean by "we"?

Started with a bogus play on words but I read your post anyway. At the end, it seems you are in line with many American Constitutional conservatives opinions.

So, why your attempt to define this brand of conservatism as some conservation movement?

The Tea Party idea is winning. Not as fast as we like, but with each election, the GOP-e is being eroded. And right now, they are getting near the threshold where they no longer have enough members to cling to the power and resources of the party.

This election, the GOP-e is fighting back, and while they can muster huge amounts of money from multinational corporations with no loyalty to the US, this money cannot buy a single vote, unless the voters think it can, and give up.

Importantly, the GOP-e is already using dirty tricks to cheat their way to wins. But like their big bucks contributors, this can only take them so far. Firm-jawed Tea Party types to not bend, and do not compromise their principles.

When the radicals tried to take over the Democrat party in 1968, they were turned back by the establishment Democrats; but by 1972, the radicals overwhelmed the establishment and took control of the party.

And while it is taking longer, there will be the same eventual outcome of conservatives displacing the Republican “corporate liberals.” And when they do, all the liberal Republicans will be stripped of power, and if they still work to undermine the conservatives, they will be purged from the party.

Buh-bye.

Once the backstabbers are gone, conservatives will likely trounce the Democrats and tear their agenda to shreds.
