Republican strategist Karl Rove suggested that he would like Congress to pass amnesty legislation during the lame-duck session of Congress, but he also said that immigration reform could get done "early next year."
President Barack Obama said that there were only "two to three months" left to pass amnesty legislation this year, but the CEOs of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers said this week that they hoped amnesty legislation could be the "final act" of the lame-duck session. Rove has courted pro-amnesty business executives for donations to his political action groups.
"The Speaker wants to get this thing done, but he wants to get it done in a way that unites the country," Rove said on Hugh Hewitt's radio show on Friday. "So my suspicion is weve got a better chance of getting comprehensive immigration reform done in the aftermath of the election or early next year." In fact, Rove expressed a preference "to get it done in the aftermath of the election."
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and other GOP leaders declared on Wednesday that Senate Republicans would "absolutely" try to pass amnesty legislation if Republicans win back control of the upper chamber next year.
Rove, while a White House adviser for President George W. Bush, helped Bush push for comprehensive immigration reform--a failed attempt that saw the conservative base revolt.
Rove stated that Obama "did not do himself or the cause of immigration reform any good by allowing" his confidant and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett to go to Las Vegas on Thursday and say that the White House had a "commitment" from House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to act on amnesty legislation. Boehner's office denied that such a commitment was made, and Jarrett walked back her remarks on Twitter Friday.

Rand Paul's immigration speech...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.[Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg]
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reformLatinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...[Posted on 04/21/2013 1:52:42 PM PDT by SoConPubbie]
[but he's not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
Regardless of if its a good idea for the nation, when you get to the votes question I think this might be a pretty simple thing to accomplish legislatively.
Assuming the GOP leadership has made strategic committee assignments already and can bring amnesty to the house floor.
D - 199
R - 233
vacant 3
So by my math a majority only needs 217 to pass ( assuming 3 are still vacant ). To get to 217 you only need 18 GOP to support amnesty. I strongly suspect they can get to that number. If I have it right filibuster in house isn’t possible so preventing a floor vote by keeping the bill in committee is the only real shot..
In the Senate the filibuster would take 40 ( or 41 I’m unclear ) votes to maintain. If 5 GOP senators are ok with amnesty then it will come to a Senate vote and will definitely pass with 53 D votes at a minimum.
Curious if anyone else sees the actual vote count analysis differently or if I missed anything.
Sorry in paragraph 6, “we ran a trade deficit...” not a trade surplus.
(just a fix)
Wonder how much this rino would be in favor of amnesty if one of the imposters select 36,000 special felons came up and touched old Carl nice and close and personal?

You're right, it was GATT that the lameduck 1994 Congress passed.
The Mexican bailout was in early 1995 but never voted on by Congress. Clinton did get the OK from Dole and Gingrich on Jan. 12, 2005 to bail out Mexico, but Congress didn't authorize it. Instead, Treas. Sec. Rubin cobbled together an international bailout package of $50 billion, of which $20 billion was from the Treas. Dept. "Exchange Stabilization Fund," which was not meant for such uses as bailing out Rubin's Wall Street buddies.
There. I think that's the right stuff!
It’s too bad that politicians and their slimy operatives like Rove don’t put the same effort into fixing the country as they do amnesty.
We were young and foolish.
These scumbags really think flooding the country with immigrants is going to give them unlimited cheap labor, but they are fools. So are the GOP-e for going along. The Democrats will push raising the minimum wage to $15 or more, and it will be a winning issue. They'll call it something like The Fair Wage Protection Act, and the public will support it overwhelmingly. The RATS will get their voters, and the Chamber and GOP-e will get the shaft.
I watched Ted Cruz during his valiant effort to halt the disaster called Obamacare. I hope you watched it as well. If he used it once, he used the phrase “...we no longer listen to the people, our constituents...” over a hundred times. And he was right...they don’t. And the fact is, THEY NO LONGER NEED TO.
I’ve posted my little rant on this topic before but Ted’s honest comment compels me to do so again.
*************
WHY THE POLITICAL RULING CLASS NO LONGER LISTENS TO US!
When the servants of the people are paid with something other than that which the people themselves have produced (i.e. the real, tangible products of their labors or some fixed and real medium of that exchange), the roles of master and servant will be reversed.
That was Thomas Jefferson warning that the financial disaster we now face would be but one of many problems paper money would visit upon us if we allowed our leaders to remove the backing from the currency.
It was believed by Roger Sherman and a majority of those at the Constitutional Convention that unbacked fiat currency would so damage the fabric of the nation that they ATTEMPTED to prohibit it with these few words at Article 1, Section 10, requiring the states to enforce the prohibition: No State shall
make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts;
If the people and their states grew inattentive to this matter (and they have!), Jefferson also saw another problem ahead.
In a letter to John Taylor in 1816, he wrote, “And I sincerely believe, with you, that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.”
We have been
swindling futurity
for a long time and this is now where we find ourselves. If the government, through its banker masters at the Federal Reserve, can create money from thin air, they certainly dont need ours every April 15th. That annual sheep shearing is simply an attempt to vacuum enough of the excess paper from the system to keep the rest of us from catching on to the biggest theft ring in the history of man. They have now created so much that their attempt is failing and failing badly to a point where all but the dullest among us (Obama voters and his growing cadres of personal and corporate welfare beneficiaries) are starting to get it.
If you understood that last paragraph, you can now make the small leap to an understanding as to why the progressive utopian welfare state hacks in Washington dont give a damn WHAT you think. Their power to create all the money they need to fuel their infernal machine and fill the gaping maws of enough of those growing hoards of welfare constituents to assure their perpetual re-election means that — ready — THEY NO LONGER NEED YOU! They have become, as Mr. Jefferson predicted, our MASTERS.
We won’t have even a CHANCE at an honest government until we again have HONEST MONEY.
That they are taking down a nation and a system that has provided more wealth, safety and abundance to more people than any other in history matters not to them. Failing to grasp the lesson of the French Revolution, they believe themselves to be above the impending disaster.
Were running out of time to get this increasingly rapacious beast back into the cage from which we have carelessly allowed it to escape.
Dick Bachert
PS: I was a 3 year member of the national board of CATS (Citizens for an Alternative Tax System), the precursor to the current Fair Tax organization. I fully support the concept of a CONSUMPTION TAX over the current Marxist INCOME TAX. That said, UNTIL WE GET BACK TO HONEST MONEY, WERE REARRANGING DECK CHAIRS ON A SINKING SHIP.
PPS: A word about the brilliance of this scheme hatched in 1913 by the elites: Economics is called the dismal science for a reason. Freepers are a pretty sharp group, and most who get this far will grasp the importance of getting back to a Constitutionally sound money system. But hand this to the guy on the street and his eyes will glaze over, he’d start drooling before he hit the third paragraph, throw it down, declare you crazy and stomp off in search of a much needed drink. We can’t solve a problem until more of us recognize that there IS ONE!
The Senate has already passed an immigration bill. If the House votes this session....and it passess...it would go to a conference committee.
Fabulous. / sarc
Here’s your immigration reform: ENFORCE EVERY DAMNED EXISTING LAW then let’s talk in 5 years.
FUKR
So 18 R’s peel off and its a done deal then eh ?
Can any Pubbie congress critter believe this? Betrayal on this scale will be the end of them. Folks, any of your congress critters supported any form of amnesty do your best to primary them out.
If Boehner goes ahead and calls a vote on immigration and uses Dems to pass it...he has to know he’s not Speaker anymore. I mean he does have to know that right? The booze and nicotine haven’t made Boehner totally stupid...right?
Yes..that is sarc.
Nah but a golden parachute might just make it ok eh ?
And they will. Count on it.
I don’t care WHAT happens in 2014, 2016 may be the end of the GOP at the polls. (A bit of hyperbole of course but it will be a disaster).
That was how they forced Obamney Care on us.
