TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — Several knives were recovered at a gruesome scene in Southern California where a mother was arrested in the killing of her three young daughters and taken from the scene covered in blood and wearing only a blanket, authorities and witnesses said. But it's not clear how the three girls, who ranged in age from 3 years to 2 months old, were killed, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Dave Coleman said.

She’s not guilty. The only reason any mother would do such a thing is post-partum depression. /s
I’m always surprised by how many people spring to the defense of a mother accused of killing her children. With agonizing over “what could have driven her to this?”
Meanwhile, if a father does the same, the implicit assumption is that he was NOT “driven to it.”

Husband Rodolfo was outside working on his car when the killings occurred. Relatives of his told the Daily Breeze that he ‘doesn’t want anybody throwing the book at her’ by condemning her to death or a life behind bars - ‘he wants her to get help.’

I just would like to note that fathers can also be under intense stress, if not for the exact same reason, and nobody ever assumes that a family-killing father must have been "driven to it."

I wish I had Jack Levin’s (Criminologist) exact words but I saw him interviewed a few years ago and he stated in his experiences people look for ways to find women innocent in these instances when the same approach doesn’t hold for men who commit similar acts.

People look for ways to excuse a mother of responsibility.
They carefully avoid seeing similar excuses for a father.

“Madrid (neighbor) said the children’s grandmother told her that the woman had called earlier in the day and said that she was going crazy.”
Let’s see now. Earlier in the day she tells neighbor she’s going crazy. Then she kills the children. And, since being arrested, she has made no statements.
Sounds to me like a premeditated killing.
This isn’t a tragedy. This is a shocking and horrific crime that staggers the mind.
