I think as soon as you sell memberships that the government looks at you differently. I’m no lawyer, so I’m really just speculating.
In any case, the only way to get a surfer is to let him surf for free. If he has to pay right off the bat for a discussion site, he won’t do it.
How long would you allow surfers/lurkers to do that before you asked them to ante up?
Well then, how about FR just post the names of those cheapskate leeches who couldn’t even donate to FR, instead of the other way around posting the names of the donors?
The FR forum software is pure genius. It just flows, and has none of the annoyances of the other forums. It’s so much better than anything else out there I’m surprised it hasn’t been copied.
I hope they copyrighted their software
!
Thank you very much, xzins!! Great thread!!
Thank you ALL very much!!
FReepers ROCK!!
These statistics both puzzle and surprise me. I would have though Freepers to be generous, thankful, appreciative, fair minded, brave and handsome (the ladies lovely).

I do not, by choice, have a television set. Can't stand the LSM. I get a good 90% of my news from right here.
When something is that valuable to me, I try and perpetuate it. That's why I'm a monthly donor and kick in the bucks to sponsor new monthly donors. Because I know we need to increase the monthly donor amount to completely eliminate the quarterly FReepathons.
FR's quarterly nut is $85,000. Divided by 3, FR's monthly nut is around $28,350. According to the scoreboard (scroll to the bottom), there are 680 monthly donors that give $11,428 per month, leaving $16,900 to be made up through the FReepathon.
If a bunch more FReepers would start donating monthly (and it's not hard; if you have auto bill pay at your bank, just add FR - this is not rocket science), FReepathons would be a thing of the past.
If you like FR, donate. If you really like FR, as I do, donate monthly.
Do what ever you can to keep FR on the air.
I’m really serious, Jim.
This IS the best website anyplace on the internet.
I don’t view it lightly, since it has an impact on a nation.
And, since God directs the rise and fall of nations, I think God put you in the driver’s seat. You’ve been faithful at the helm...something the NYTimes pilot can’t say.
All of which is true. And the ladies are without doubt the loveliest on this or any planet.
That said, we’re a bunch of middle class agitators with substantial communication tool named Free Republic.
You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone.
Conservatives do themselves a favor by donating.
Amen, dearest Jim!
Thank you so much again, dearest xzins. You’re the very best, dearest gentle man.
And thank you all very much.
Like Jim says, “you all ROCK” and I personally treasure and respect you all!
Indeed, we are. Buuuuump!
Yes, Sister in Christ.
Bump!
That’s such a good post, upchuck.
I do things a bit differently, but we’re thinking alike nonetheless. I go to FR and check news. Sometimes in the background I have fox news running (I prefer fox business, actually).
I use Free Republic to check the accuracy of anything that might get through from Fox. Bet they wouldn’t like to hear that. It’s truly amazing, though, when you get a hundred people talking on a thread how much detail and background they remember that puts news items in a much more accurate framework.
