MADISON, MississippiSen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) told the Associated Press that if hes re-elected, he plans to serve the full six years of what would be his seventh term in the U.S. Senate.
I sure hope, if I am alive and well, I'll be serving, Cochran, who is facing a primary challenge from Mississippi state senator Chris McDaniel, said when asked if he plans to serve all six year of a seventh term. Yes, I think that's something the people have a right to expect, and I intend to serve a full term.
The pledge from Cochran is interesting because there's lots of chatter among Mississippi GOP insiders about a potential ascension plan in the works.
For example, Bryan Shaver, a former aide to then-Congressman now Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), told Breitbart News he thinks its common knowledge that Cochran would only serve a couple years if re-elected then someone else would be appointed into the Senate seat. Shaver says to look at the case of Trent Lott, whose senate seat was given mid-term to Wicker.
In that particular case, from what I understand, they wanted somebody else to run, Shaver said. But Wicker really wanted it and he hounded and hounded Haley [Barbour] forever. The other person didnt want to do it, so they finally had to give it to Wicker. I dont think Wicker was the first choice. I worked for Roger, and that was all just common knowledge. The same kind of common knowledge is going on with Thad.
Shaver adds that hes heard Rep. Gregg Harper (R-MS) is the likely choice for Cochrans replacement, if thats how it goes down, mid-term.

D.C. will never change if we keep reelecting people like Thad Cochran. Hasn’t he “served” long enough? No disrespect to the elderly (I’m no spring chicken myself), but there comes a time when everyone should hand the reigns over to the next generation. There isn’t a single person in D.C. so special and vital to the nation that they must serve until they literally drop dead in office.
Some of these dirt bags are getting pretty old
I think our only hope is for when they start dying off
Thad Cochran is about as good as it gets as far as Conservatives go. He lives with a women who’s not his wife. He jets around the world with her at taxpayer expense. He hasn’t lived in his home state in over 40 years. He has abandoned his real wife who is confined to a nursing home in his home state, where he doesn’t live. He votes with the Liberals more often than not. He ignores his constituents while catering to his well heeled financial benefactors.
What’s not to like, I don’t see any reason why he should be turned out of office.
No 76 year old has any business promising a third term. Heck, his relative Johnny could only hold on until 67.
He should spend more time with his wife, not his mistress.
I hope Mississippi conservatives help him do it.
Let’s not forget that he also likes avoiding debates.
He should spend more time with his wife, not his mistress.
I hope Mississippi conservatives help him do it.

What you said!!
Chris McDaniel certainly will.
I hope it is Harper and not tater Reeves which is what I heard
Unless there is an Election Code/Law preventing him from doing so, I wish Chris McDaniel would run as an Independent in the General Election if Cochran wins the Primary. That would smack Haley Barbour’s hog jowls.
Since MS cannot vote for Eastland or Stennis, I imagine they will want to stick with Cochran a little longer. Same with the hapless Kentuckians, without Earle Clements or Alben Barkley, they can stick with Mitch.
