In a bizarre attempt to maintain control of the Republican Party in California, Karl Roves hubris is beginning to take on almost paranoid features as he insists that if the Tea Party favorite Tim Donnelly wins the gubernatorial primary, it will tarnish all Republicans everywhere:
Karl Rove, the prominent Republican strategist, said Friday that Tim Donnelly will be a liability for Republicans nationwide if the tea party favorite finishes second in the gubernatorial primary election and advances to a November runoff against Gov. Jerry Brown.
If the California Republican Party has as the leading candidate, the leading statewide candidate on the ballot this year somebody who has said the outrageous things that hes said and prone to the outrageous behavior that he routinely engages in, it will be used to tarnish not only the California Republican Party, but theyll throw it at everybody else on the ballot, and everybody else will, across the country, disavow the guy, Rove told the conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt on his show.
This paranoia is reaching scary proportions as Rove, Condoleeza Rice and Mitt Romney all came out to support the only guy Neel Kashkari who is competing against Donnelly in the primary. In my view, Kashkaris record could only qualify him as a DIRC Democrat in Republican Clothing:
Theyve lined up behind millionaire former Goldman Sachs vice president Neel Kashkari. The 40-year-old, first-time candidate ran the federal bank bailout known as TARP the Troubled Asset Relief Program as a Treasury official, favors abortion access and same-sex marriage rights, and even admits to voting for Barack Obama in 2008.
Why is this guy even pretending to be a Republican and why is the establishment so concerned about stopping Donnelly and supporting a man who is worse than a squish on every issue? In addition to being socially liberal, Kashkari actually voted for Obama in 2008 and has never run for public office.
My point in this article is not to try to push a Donnelly win although I think he will easily defeat Kashkari as he has all the grassroots and tea party support in California while Kashkaris campaign is failing to gain traction. Pulling off a win in November against Jerry Brown would take a few miracles and is not likely to happen, but at least Donnelly will give Brown a bit of a fight.
But the bigger issue is just how obsessed the establishment elite have become in thinking establishment knows best. Their arrogance is getting repugnant.
With rare exception, I can count on the Rovarian in picking my candidate—when he trashes a Republican, my default position (contingent on my own due diligence, of course) is to support whoever he is trashing.
Keep letting us know your picks, Fatso.
This is because the man is an example of true genius. Never in the history of the consulting business has a man managed to spend so much and managed to achieve so little. But wait, there's more! That's not the "genius" part!
The "Genius" part comes in when KTAR manages to convince candidates to hire him again and again, disaster after disaster. This man, this man I say, has the unique ability to spot a loser from 1,500 meters out, and then convince the GOP to spend YOUR money on him, a losing campaign, and of course, KTAR himself.
But the "Genius" goes far beyond getting you to pay for losing tactics. O no! With KTAR you also get losing strategy ... e.g. The welcome mat for Illegal Aliens, who are only too happy to repay KTAR's compassion by voting for the Democrats well before they are even semi-legitimized by KTAR's latest Amnesty Program!
KTAR's genius has been recognized by no less an intellectual leader than Sean (Hair-Do) Hannity. HS Drop out KTAR has often described himself as an Idiot savant. As usual, the half-assed SOB has it about half right.
Guess no one at the GOP has ever heard the "Fool me once..." thing. KTAR has discovered that over at GOP HQ, you CAN fool ALL those people ALL the time. That, FRiends, is "genius."
And when the RNC calls asking for money...
What’s amazing to me is the GOP Establishment - and their own brand of media sock puppets - continually wail about the primaries, clamoring that ALL “Republicans” need to coalesce together behind a candidate. But only do so when they want coalescing behind their candidate. When their candidate is getting hammered in a primary, all of a sudden we don’t hear calls for unity and coalescing. We hear cries like this - destroy conservatives. Somebody should ask Karl about that the next time his horrible mug turns up on Fox.
I believe you’re talking about Gerry Parsky. AKA “Spawn of Satan.” The destruction of the CA GOP was a willful occurrence with these people in charge (Rove, to me, has always been a pretty clear-cut Democrat operative).
Alas, Simon lost by 5% (47-42%). Other than him, McClintock (as the highest vote getter running on the GOP ticket in 2002) should’ve been the standard bearer in the recall. I was very vocal here on FR at the time in trying to stop Ah-nold’s candidacy (and pretty much everything I said about him 11 years ago turned out to be true). Letting the left-wing take over a state GOP is the quickest way to party death.
Yeah, what you said.
I’m from CA. I didn’t realize that Neel Kashkari voted for Obama and had such a liberal record. It doesn’t help things that Donnelley pleaded no contest to 2 misdemeanor gun charges when he packed a loaded gun in his carry on bag at the airport in 2012, but if he ticks off Rove this much that’s reason enough for me to vote for him. It’s hard to get too excited about any Governor’s race in this blue state. http://www.mercurynews.com/california/ci_25526879/field-poll-gops-hope-california-governors-race-leaning
I voted for Donnelly. I’m done voting for “moderate” back-stabbing establishment bozos. I will leave the line blank rather than vote for another worthless RINO.
California deserves a governor like Donelly. Although I don’t know if that is a good thing to say about California. It is a state for characters.
Ahh, the great McClintock / Arnold Wars. Those were the good old days on FR.

Translation: "Unless all of the planets are in line, and we are winning 42-0 at halftime, I, Karl Rove, simply cannot help Republicans win elections. Now, the Dems can say all kinds of outrageous things, and even have candidates who lie about being Vietnam War vets or Native Americans, and not only do those things not hurt other Dem candidates, but the lying candidates actually even win those races....
If a Republican, says something (allegedly) questionable, OTOH, it's all over. I simply do not have the ability or intelligence to be able to punch back. Let's face it, the Dems are simply better political strategists than I am. I helped lose the popular vote in 2000, had Bush barely squeak by in 2004 against a pathetic opponent, advised Bush to an all-time low approval rating, saw my hand-picked presidential candidate lose a winnable race in 2012, and was one-for-twelve in endorsing Senate candidates that year. (But hey, who cares? Fox pays me a lot of money...)'"
UGH.
Arch-RINO and Obama voter Neel Kashkari has finally slipped into third place behind Donnelly, this could be uncomfortably close.
KASHKARI HAS SOME MAJOR MONEY behind him, he has a commercial on EVERY 10 minutes!!!! I will be voting for Donnelly!!!!
” Karl Roves hubris is beginning to take on almost paranoid features as he insists that if the Tea Party favorite Tim Donnelly wins the gubernatorial primary, it will tarnish all Republicans everywhere: “
This is exactly the same line that Hugh Hewitt has been spouting on his Salem Radio show.
We’re not going to win this, but Republicans are afraid that Donnelly will inspire heavy minority and leftist turnout, damaging Republicans in down-ballot races.
Donnelly is too controversial to be a great choice, but KashforKlunkerz is just atrocious, I can’t hope he makes the runoff. Outright liberals who voted for Obama in 2008 (apologize, Neel! of course he won’t because he wants to pander to Obama voters “Hey I voted for him too” disgusting, I don’t care what state it is) have no place in the party.
Either one would likely get their ass kicked by Brown, last time CAGOP nominated RINO Whitman, she lost huge and were did horribly down ballot anyway.
I’ll be happy if we can win one Statewide office, I wouldn’t bet on it happening.
