Lawmakers and Washington interest groups are engaged in a battle over whether looming EPA rules will help or hurt as President Obama prepares to announce a highly anticipated performance standard for power plants June 2.
The proposed standard will require existing natural gas and coal-fired power plants to release no more than 1,000 pounds of CO2 per megawatt-hour of electricity - easily done with natural gas but unobtainable by present day coal plants.
Although coal still provides almost 40 percent of U.S. electricity, the White House's new point man on energy, John Podesta, said Wednesday that climate change necessitates coal’s demise. "President Obama believes we have a moral obligation to act now to curb climate change," he said.
While Podesta affirmed the president's commitment to address climate change, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce was releasing a study that found the new standard will result in the loss of 224,000 jobs every year through 2030 and impose $50 billion in annual costs.
"The American household will lose $586 billion of disposable income. That means a household losing over $3,400 of income they'd otherwise be spending on something else," said Karen Harbert of the Chamber of Commerce.

when this was reported by fox as a possibility about 3 years ago, I called ed markeys office and the young man who took my call said “fox lies”.

The folly of closing working coal plants, while seeing them built abroad in the name of global warming and special interest groups makes just no economic sense. No wonder our country is in the economic malaise.
It makes perfect sense if you intend to bring down the US and enslave its population. Obama loves our enemies and believes the US should pay for all its past sins as he sees them. He is the head of a coup that has overthrown America.

TVA can't even afford to keep up with the standards. Every upgrade they do the EPA adds more rules. TVA is closing down coal fired steam plants. They aren't building new ones either. Our energy policies are being written by fools who have no real concept of affordable and economically feasible energy. They have their Kindergarten ideas of Hocus Pocus no more coal, no more Nuke, no more this, no more that, but they have no viable alternatives which can meet the power demands needed to run this nations homes and industries.

The Green Agenda Is About Getting Rid Of As Many Humans As Possible
Most people tend to think of environmentalists as warm, cuddly hippies that just want all of us to love one another and to do what is right for the environment. And in fact, there are a few people out there who are actually like that. However, the people at the very heart of the green agenda are a quite different breed. The truth is that there are a growing number of environmental activists (including some very, very famous people) who are publicly advocating the end of our freedoms, the establishment of a Big Brother style world government and the systematic eradication of at least 90% of humanity all for the good of the environment. To these eco-fascists, climate change is the number one threat to the earth, and in order to eliminate that threat “democracy must be put on hold”, an authoritarian world government must be established and we need to start getting rid of as many humans as possible.
