Mosul, Iraqs second-largest city, has long been hard for the central government to control because of its combustible mix of Arabs and Kurds. The first time I visited Mosul was in August 2003 when a tenuous calm was maintained by the 101st Airborne Division. Its commander, a then-obscure two-star general named David Petraeus, had on his own initiative opened the Syrian border to trade, struck deals with Syria and Turkey to provide badly needed electricity, restored telephone service, and held elections to elect local leaders. Along the way he also managed to kill Saddam Husseins poisonous offspring Uday and Qusay.

I think we all owe Jimmy Carter an apology. At least Jimmy Carter TRIED.
This Obama is just a complete disaster. Good luck to whoever is president after this nincompoop.
The world is burning and POTUS is golfing. And John “reporting for duty like Ghengis Khan” Kerry is reading a Maya Angelou poem.
I actually think the lefty media is beginning to realize their golem is out of control.
File under: too little too late.
Yawn Kerry has caused 2 major killing fields in his pathetic lifetime while being praised by the Marxist media.
Pray America wakes up
Vicious leader of ISIS terrorist group when U.S. forces released him to Iraq: Ill see you in New York
I am more concerned that the United States could become a launching ground for attacks against the United States. -Tom
He is now working on losing WWII.
Reason #1: Have you bought your prayer rug yet? And how’s that beard coming along. You don’t still let your wife drive your car, do you?
Same thing isolationists said in 1939 when other fascists were seizing territory and plotting to take over the world. They called it a Reich then, a Caliphate now.
That’s the dilemma of freedom-loving people. Peace seems always to be bought with blood.
Would it be genocide to eradicate a tribe or tribes of people whose agendas include killing all “infidels”? If the people of the world would just acknowledge that our species has the right to protect itself then maybe we can be rid of these anthropologically retarded animals.

Mosul is a mostly Kurdish place, and Iran’s client Shiite regime running Iraq has consistently tried to crush both Kurdish autonomy and the large Sunni minority in the Iraqi pseudostate. Mosul is also near the border with Syria, and was a pass-through back when Syria’s Assad regime participated in the terrorists’ war against US and other coalition forces in Iraq, asd during the Gulf War 20 years ago when the late dictator of Syria opposed Saddam, and even before that, during the Iran-Iraq war.
The solution is carving Iraq into several states. Currently Iraq is no different than “black majority rule” in South Africa.

Ha.
I’ve seen some of our retired military on TV saying that Malaki fired all the Generals our military had trained. That means our military did their job, but our State Department failed miserably.
Exactly. Hussein ruled with an iron fist over zealots that needed to be ruled over with an iron fist. Saddam Hussein was far less a threat to America than the radical Jihadist that are taking over. He was less of an enemy than the Hussein that 'rules' over us from Pennsylvania Ave.
Can you give me a good reason that we should go back in and spill American blood to save people (muslims) that will end up hating us infidels anyway?
Many of them are not that hard to find in caravans from one city to the next. Blast them from the sky. Do it one good time so you don’t have to go back and do it again.
As did/does Assad. You cannot be against replacing Saddam and for replacing Assad. And that is the Obama/Progresso position. It contradicts itself as always.
Funny how I don't ever hear this silly, inane bullsh!t from a leader in an Islamic country:
"Islam is a religion of peace."
Dude, that was like three days ago.
Yes and no.
Yes Saddam was far more effective at dealing with radical Islam.
No to your generic statement about not putting military personnel in harms way half way around the world. In the right situation where terrorists who attacked our country are involved, the answer is that we should be involved.
And those history books will be correct. I can't figure out how Bush got the idea that a democracy of 100 million Islamic voters would result in something positive.
