At Commencement, Obama Mocks Lawmakers Who Deny Climate Change
New York Times ^ | June 14, 2014 | By Mark Ländler

President Obama, appearing emboldened after his recent move to cut carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants, on Saturday ridiculed members of Congress who deny climate change or plead scientific ignorance as an alibi for avoiding an inconvenient truth.

Speaking in gleefully sarcastic terms to a commencement ceremony at the University of California, Irvine, Mr. Obama likened those who deny climate change to people who would have told John F. Kennedy, at the dawn of the space program, that the moon “was made of cheese.”

He saved his most scathing words for lawmakers who say they are not qualified to judge the issue because they are not scientists. These people, the president said, recognize the truth but will not utter it for fear of being “run out of town by a radical fringe that thinks climate science is a liberal plot.”

“I’m not a scientist either,” Mr. Obama told this young audience, “but we’ve got some good ones at NASA. I do know the overwhelming majority of scientists who work on climate change, including some who once disputed the data, have put the debate to rest.”

I’m no expert but I’ve read (and believe) that it wasn’t so much the Catholic Church that was up in arms against Copernicus and Galileo, but the ruling scientific establishment of the day. It was the “consensus scientists” of yesteryear who pressured the Catholic Church (or appealed to the Church) to enforce the earth-centered scientific orthodoxy.

If I’m wrong about that, I’d be interesting in hearing otherwise.

the entire congress needs to laugh.

I'd much prefer that they grow a pair, and a brain, and rid us of this evil POS.

His stance is reminiscent of people in the USSR who mocked those opponents of Lysenko who knew genetics.

How dare this affirmative action Adolf Hitler brazen this out?

The jeering treatment would be a great beginning, though.

He dares because he is a quintessential politician. Objective truth means nothing to him. If he can spread a lie he will.

Incidentally, the affirmative action Hitler mentions NASA and the moon? That trip to the moon was a real boondoggle. We could have done the same thing for a fraction of the price with unmanned vehicles. Corrupt NASA keeps pushing these manned space flights -- now costing more and more human lives -- because of the extra money it brings to them.

The real Hitler -- unlike our affirmative action Hitler -- didn't really oppose technology as such (quite the opposite). Where the real Hitler thankfully went wrong was in physics. Hitler looked down on physics and called it "Jewish physics." Because of such a stance, it was America that got the atom bomb.

Liberals have to have SOME dramatic narrative to speak about. Can't talk about increased individual freedom and prosperity. Can't talk about the American dream. Can't talk about the socialist revolution to spread wealth among the oppressed classes. This is it.

Val Jar Binks gets her orders from someone else.

Muslim Brotherhood? KGB? Various One-World Organizations?

I think it’s simply from the highest bidder on any given issue. But, of course, all of them are anti-American, so the results aren’t all that different.

I just think of them as “The Cabal”.

The Catholic Church in the middle ages had a 'consensus' about the Sun rotating around the earth

if we Catholics say it's true, then it's TRUE....adjust your silly science...
