Audit: IRS Does Not ‘Effectively Track’ Computers That Are ‘Recycled Or Donated’
Weekly Standard ^ | 06/18/2014 | JERYL BIER

The results of a Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) audit released Tuesday found that "[w]hile the IRS is complying with GSA requirements to recycle or donate used information technology (IT) equipment, TIGTA found several areas for improvement." The IRS got rid of more than 100,000 computers between 2009 and 2012 by recycling or donating to schools. However, the agency does not "effectively track which equipment is recycled or donated," which made it difficult for TIGTA to measure compliance to General Services Administration (GSA) requirements.

The IRS will now tell Issa that those drives he subpoenaed of Lerner and the other six were all recycled or donated, with no records showing when or where. So sorry.

How stupid do they think people are?
The e-mails are not stored on a single computer in someone’s office. They are on huge servers in the network......................

Which means most of it went home with employees.

If the IRS does not clean hard drives before donating or recycling, then every American’s private information including Social Security Numbers are at risk for identity theft.

So the computers didn’t crash, or the IRS intentionally breached security by allowing millions of private identities be available to criminals.

This isn’t about bad IT practices at the IRS as they want us to believe. This is a coverup. Watch for all kinds of “bad IT at the IRS” articles to come to distract from the fact that they have been caught lying to congress and attempting to coverup it’s use by the executive branch to target private citizens.

Anyone in the IRS that has even discussed, seen or heard of anything in connection with equipment, servers, hard drives, EMAILs regarding the subpoenaed information should be in prison RIGHT NOW. RIGHT NOW. IMPRISON EVERY ONE OF THEM.

The entire computer system of the IRS should be sequestered and removed from the care of IRS employees, and computer forensic investigators take over.

I am so sick of these excuses. The IRS has an email server, not just Lerner’s emails, all emails, that is regularly backed up and stored off-site, end of story.

Get the back-ups.

...but the IRS expects us to track every single donation that we write off every single year.

They should be ordered by the house to immediately provide all of the backups or be held in contempt of congress. Immediately charge all of the higher-ups with destroying evidence if they can’t produce the backups. Give them a date sure imperative of three days and that’s being generous.

Grow some balls GOP and if you aren’t smart enough to understand the concept of servers and multiple backups then bring in competent advisors to slam down the bullshit as it spews from the filthy democrat mouths.

You are SO RIGHT.

And next, expect a bunch of dems will be coming out asking for some emergency funding for the IRS, because, these things wouldn’t have happened if they only had enough people, money, resources, etc. One scam just sets us up for the next one.

OK but what about the backups done on servers probably several times a day?

They tried to tell us these are kept only for six months. Hogwash!
