So stupid...Yeah, Redskins. BFD. Like people don't know that Indians were sometimes violent. Like people don't know many times they were not. Get over it.
And what are their names and addresses (and places of work)?
What? Do we no longer have a majority of grown-ups in this country? Do all these people who are so *offended* by so many things REALLY think they are mature?
Then the Atlanta Braves need their name revoked. As do the
Kansas City Chiefs
Chicago Blackhawks
Golden State Warriors
I really wish I cared about the NFL. I am on the Redskins’ side here...I hate that the government is keeping the team from using the name.
On the other hand, the NFL’s open celebration of sodomy and hatred of Rush Limbaugh’s effort to own part of a team has caused me to walk away from even watching pro football.
It’s stupid, but don’t get hung up on the stupidity. It’s really a way of making us all feel guilty for the eeeevvvviiiilllll things that this country has done, and all Whites are responsible for, and should feel guilty for, etc etc.
The country has wiped out slavery and discrimination. What’s left except to go after NAMES of teams?
Do they outlaw Redskin Potatoes next?
This idiotic rule could apply to the Yankees (northerners), Giants (large people), Reds (communists), Flames (homosexuals) and Senators (criminals).
The Bill of Rights is dead.
Free Speech is dead: Try to speak your mind in acadamia nowaday!
Assembly is dead: Ask the Boy Scouts being forced to accept queer.
Private property is dead: Redskins is a great case in point.
The right to be free from illegal searches and seizures.
NSA
Kelo
it just goes on and on.
I'm thinking that the south was right as far as States Rights goes.
Perhaps rename them...
1. Washington Collective
2. Washington Cronies
3. Washington Usurpers
The complaint says “Redskins” is derogatory. More specifically, it is that the word was understood to be derogatory at the time it was first recognized.
There are two problems with this: First, as a matter of fact, was Redskins understood to be derogatory at the time it was first recognized? If it was, why wasn’t a complaint registered at the time? In real time, when the Boston Braves changed its name to Boston Redskins, it was (a) to differentiate them from the Boston Braves baseball team, and (b) as recognizing that the head coach and several players were (or at least claimed to be) of Indian ancestry. So, it was a source of pride.
Second, to the extent that Redskins has an edge to it, like Celtics, Vikings, Pirates, Rebels and many other nicknames of the pro sports teams, this wasn’t derogatory either. It was an acknowledgement of the honorable opposition of various people to the encroachment of the greater community. We Americans respect Indians who resisted the expansion of the U.S. across the continent, including Tecumseh, Sitting Bull and Geronimo, even though we fought them.
disparaging name???

If it comes to this, they could change their name to “Engines.”
But spell it “Injuns”, when it suits them.
