In a recent interview with the Daily Beast that focused on the “bigotry” and “xenophobia” of Americans who are opposed to amnesty for illegal immigrants, Boston archbishop Cardinal Sean O’Malley said, “Obviously, the fear is not rational, and I think we are dealing with it in an irrational way.”
The Daily Beast’s Christopher Dickey lead up to his discussion with O’Malley about the thousands of illegal immigrant minors flooding the United States following President Obama’s decision to relax their deportations:
The fear and hatred of foreigners is nothing new in the United States, nation of immigrants though it is. O’Malley said he’d been reading up on the Know-Nothings of the 19th century who wanted to limit severely the immigration of Catholics, require them to wait 21 years for naturalization, and allow only Protestants to teach in public schools.
There is a reason there are few stained-glass windows in the Philadelphia cathedral, he said: “Because they knew they would be broken with bricks.” (Indeed, the building was designed during Know-Nothing violence in the 1840s with no windows at all at street level).
Dickey reports O’Malley told him that, in the 20th century, the same sort of xenophobia was turned against immigrants from Latin America and Asia, with the added factor of racism.
The “path to citizenship” for illegal immigrants, O’Malley said, is absolutely essential....

Ever since the Church got Rome delivered to it on a silver platter its organizational presence has not been quite the same. Satan got with honey what he couldn’t get with vinegar.
Whether the fear is rational or not, it is certainly real.
There was always a reason why immigration has to be kept under control. One of the major reasons is because we know NOTHING about these new arrivals who have entered by clandestine means, and until they reveal their presence by some means, including, and most particularly by, the commission of some criminal activity, there are few means of even identifying them. There is also the danger of importing some communicable diseases along with their physical presence, and the even greater danger that the person crossing the border has malevolent intent, either against an individual, or some agency of our government, part of a plan of invasion and disruption of our domestic tranquility.
None of the consequences of illegal entry end well.
The people of the United States of America are not unmerciful. There is the very real possibility that those fleeing across our border are victims of persecution in their homeland, and as refugees they are taken in for at least temporary respite. But no such refugee has uncontested right to remain here, and if possible, every attempt should be made to ascertain that the refugee actually is subject to persecution, and is not merely fleeing the properly ordained laws of the home country.
This circumstance is much more rare than has been attributed, and is frequently combined with an effort to circumvent or defraud the normal immigration process.
This is an example of “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” Heavy shame is falling upon the people of America, and certain of their leaders.

Being able to help pick and choose politicians, for one. If the Catholic Church were to gain another 15 million faithful Catholics who could be told, in a manner of speaking ,as to who to vote for that would have an effect on which politicians could be chosen.
It could cause politicians, on both sides and at all levels, to have some consideration for policies that are favourable to the Catholic Church.
He’d be nuts to expect them to be able to steer a crowd of that kind to be anything other than Democrat, though.

American institutions rest solely on good citizenship. They were created by people who had a background of self-government. New arrivals should be limited to our capacity to absorb them into the ranks of good citizenship. America must be kept American. For this purpose it is necessary to continue a policy of restricted immigration.
It would be well to make such immigration of a selective nature with some inspection at the source, and based either on a prior census or upon the record of naturalization. Either method would insure the admission of those with the largest capacity and best intention of becoming citizens. Those who do not want to be partakers of the American spirit ought not to settle in America.

We do know a lot from various random looks, and it isn’t usually pretty.
Many Latinos are faithful Catholics. If the Cardinal were to say what sort of politician should be voted for, without even having to name names, a lot of the Latinos would vote for that politician. Even if only ten percent of the estimated 12 million amnestied illegals were to respond, although I think the number would be higher, that’s over a million concentrated votes.
In a body like Congress, a small band of united politicians can get a lot done if they are committed to sticking together.
And how quickly that all went kaput with the Great Crash.

Blacks who do not vote Republican are being non-thinking reactionaries.
Latinos, who vote based on a pastoral recommendation are just being faithful Catholics.

Even the Catholics are giving us intellectually dishonest labels like “racists” even though many on our side have explained our reasoning well enough that any halfway intelligent person could understand.
Next on my list of demands Protestant traditions be allowed. Say this is a Catholic Church? So what? Are you prejudice or something Cardinal? Next what if I demanded that I could take the churches money it uses for it's mission purposes, take the job of the janitor who is supporting 8 kids because I work cheaper, use the fired janitor or Cardinals identity in all my credit and public assistance applications etc. He would be outraged and say we have set rules set by the church which you must follow to be a member of the church. Exactly my point.
The United States of America has had long established laws on entry and citizenship being granted and certain requirements to be met. Just like your church Cardinal we have established an orderly process for citizenship or being allowed to stay and work in the U.S. It is fair and if government applied & enforced it correctly it would benefit all including ones wishing to immigrate and become American Citizens.
We require by law our kids learn a minimal history of our nation, it's government, and it's election process. This process takes our kids 12 years usually.
Right now because immigration laws are not being enforced we have a rise in diseases we had eliminated through our national vaccine, public health laws, and education as to how to prevent the spread of diseases. TB had almost been eliminate as well as many serious childhood diseases. TB certainly wasn't common anymore.
How can you deal with a culture that will not even take prescribed medications for diseases like TB and by taking them only partially and not following up closely with doctors as we must do as citizens creates TB Super Bugs. Cardinal would you allow such to take communion and in good conscience before GOD give communion then to the next person from that same vessel? Well would you? We also have a strain on our health care system and public assistance programs because immigration laws are not being enforced.
Immigration laws are for the health and welfare of all. The blatant refusal to ignore that and just waltz right on in spits in the face of those of us who face the risk they bring in.
In the service because I was deployed first to South America then to Europe I had to under go extensive vaccines. It was to protect me, my shipmates, and my family, upon my return home. Remember as well Immigrants used to have to go through Ellis Island or similar processing stations.
Your church sets forth rules and laws to protect your church. We set forth laws in this nation to protect our citizens. Let's see you surrender your churches laws first? No?
No church leaders in any church should be encouraging illegal entry into the United States. For those persecuted for religious or political beliefs we have a system for that as well. This has become a cartel funded invasion of the United States.
In that case, may I suggest that 40% of every Sundays offering go to support these “innocent” law breakers?
I would like to see immigration just halted for a few decades.
In other words, just a few 10s of thousands for those little situations that need to be handled, but the end of mass immigration measured by hundreds of thousands.

1) Pastors will NEVER give out a specific politician name to vote for. They know that to do this explicitly would destroy the church's tax-free status, and rightly so.
2) Latinos in the aggregate will NEVER vote for anyone other than who's proposing the biggest government. They vote for the Dems over the GOP by a factor of up to 5:1!!

I never said pastors would have to give names. They just have to give characteristics of whole to vote. For example, supporting church interests.
As I said, even if only a fraction of church-going Latinos listen to the pastor, it’s still a concentration of political power.
But you’re welcome to believe the Catholic church supports amnesty for all the godly and upstanding reasons, as opposed to for the simple naked grab of power.
What the pro-amnesty people forget to mention: There are millions of children in Asia and Africa who also desperately want to come to the United States, but the oceans stop them from doing so.
So is it fair to let these illegal immigrants from Latin America free admission when millions of desperate children in Asia and Africa want to come to the United States also? Sad this Obama administration.
What is irrational about using common sense, Cardinal Sean O'Malley? Are we to ignore the law and blend the difference between legal and illegal immigration? Common sense says to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into this country.
The first and only priority on the short term is to secure our borders. After our borders are secured, then and only then, should we deal with the tens of millions of illegal immigrants already here.
The second priority will be to identify and deport the criminals and criminal element among the illegals, like gangs, drug dealers, murderers, etc.
The third priority is to come up with a compassionate and fair way to deal with the hard working families who jumped the line to get into our country. How are we treating those who waited in line by rewarding those who jumped the line, Cardinal Sean O'Malley?
