Why do millions of Indians defecate in the open?
BBC ^ | 6/16/2014

Posted on 06/21/2014 4:12:25 AM PDT by Altura Ct.

It's early morning and local commuters are queuing up for tickets at the Kirti Nagar railway station in the Indian capital, Delhi.

Along the tracks, another crowd is gathering - each person on his own, separated by a modest distance. They are among the 48% of Indians who do not have access to proper sanitation.

Coming from a slum close-by, they squat among the few trees and bushes along the railway tracks and defecate in the open.

To many, this is a daily morning ritual despite the hazards of contracting diseases such as diarrhoea and hepatitis.

It can be even more hazardous for women since each time a woman uses the outdoors to relieve herself, she faces a danger of sexual assault.

Recently two teenage girls from the state of Uttar Pradesh were gang-raped and found hanging from a tree after they left their village home to go to the toilet. Their house, like hundreds of millions of others in the country, did not have any facilities. 'No privacy'

A new World Health Organisation (WHO) report says more than half a billion people in India still "continue to defecate in gutters, behind bushes or in open water bodies, with no dignity or privacy".

The ancient Greek civilization of Crete, known as the Minoan civilization, was the first civilization to use underground clay pipes for sanitation and water supply.[4][5] Their capital, Knossos, had a well organized water system for bringing in clean water, taking out waste water and storm sewage canals for overflow when there was heavy rain. It was also one of the first uses of a flush toilet, dating back to 18th century BC.

We criticize the muzzies for living in the 7th Century. It looks like a lot of India hasn't even advanced to the AD era yet. They're still living in the deep BC.

All cultures are equal! These people are simply misunderstood and they need to be encouraged to keep doing what they are doing. If this started happening in the US, they would designate public areas for people to freely crap in, while raises taxes to hire law enforcement to protect them from harassment.

Just providing sanitation and water for the masses is not a solution. Must be a comprehensive plan, or they will overpopulate at an even worse pace.

The poverty in India for the lower classes is breathtaking.

What's breathtaking is the indifference of the corrupt ruling elites to the lives of the peasants. India is one of those countries that could use a good old-fashioned Bastille-type revolution, complete with the guillotining of the entire upper class. They have been robbing the country blind via regulatory corruption, and plain old theft, while telling the poor they're so much better off than they were under British rule.

If they would ease off on their concentration on multiplying like rabbits and think about how to bring themselves into the modern world, they wouldn’t be doing this.

I was in the U.S. Army serving in Seoul, Korea in 1961-62 and I saw the same thing. I haven’t been there since but I understand that South Korea is now a modern, industrialized nation. I would bet any amount of money that they don’t do that anymore.

It speaks volumes about the Indian civilization.

Well said.

A while back there was an article about 30,000 people applying for 3 jobs. The jobs were for rat catchers which came with a stick and a flashlight. A high percentage of the applicants held 4 year degrees.

They also dump their dead in the rivers. So you have corpses floating and decomposing in the same places these people go to bathe, brush teeth, drink, and of course go bathroom.

It speaks volumes about the Indian civilization.

India pretends to be a democracy. In reality, it's a corrupt tyranny that crushes free enterprise while building minimal infrastructure. India's elites are adept at pissing on their inferiors while convincing them that it's raining. And they do this no matter which political party is elected to office.

Having the same size families as American pioneers in the 19th century isn't "multiplying like rabbits". India is now a net EXPORTER of food and doing much better than they were 50 years ago financially. Having children isn't the problem. A bigger problem would be passing up the free hamburger that lives in the streets with them. That's their choice.

"I took a leak in the yard this morning because I could."

Back when we were house shopping, part of my minimal criteria for a property is that it had to be private enough for me to step out on the back deck and take a piss without anyone easily seeing, or complaining. Also needed to be able to shoot guns without issue and have high speed internet - all making it a bit difficult to find a place, but we did!

That worked so well for Haiti, didn't it?

It may be the case that the upper castes are also where the higher-IQ individuals come from. You know, the ones who are necessary for the operation of modern civilization?

I do agree that it would be better for India if much of government/socialism was stripped away, that the government employees were forced to seek private sector employment, and if restrictions preventing lower castes from starting their own small businesses were removed.

And yet plenty of our companies can’t wait to move IT jobs there to unqualified, but cheap of course, call center monkeys - probably many of the same ones squatting al fresco.

Let’s be honest - many of their countrymen who come to the States have some of these same (read: lower) standards of hygiene. And many of these new arrivals are buying up hotels and motels and applying this same standard of cleanliness which is to say no standard at all.

ANYTHING that costs money - A/C, water, soap, etc. will be rationed as if the war were on. These are some grasping, greedy buggers.

I booked a room at what was ostensibly a chain hotel owned by one of our Indian friends. It was an absolutely shocking experience...I opened the hotel door, saw the state of the room, turned on my heel and checked out. Of course, Srini at the front desk frowned and muttered something about a ‘minimum charge.’ I told him my credit card company would most assuredly take my side and that he could get stuffed.

If this information on the number of children that the American pioneers had is correct, you still have a problem when you compare it to the bases of the populations at issue. The pioneers in America numbered far, far fewer than the multitudes currently in India, so applying that ratio is not a valid comparison, IMHO. The analogy to "multiplying like rabbits" still makes sense to me.

It’s interesting that some prominent corporate franchises have been taking a close look at that for years. I know Southland Corp. — the parent company for 7-11 — got a lot of negative press some years ago when they announced that they were taking a close look at many of their Indian franchise owners.

Not to worry. Given their practice of sex-selection abortion, in a couple of generations there will be too few women for population growth, and the healthiest women will be employed as rental-wombs by Western homosexuals.

Just as in the similar case in China, it will be interesting (from a safe distance) to see how this works out for them.

“India is one of those countries that could use a good old-fashioned Bastille-type revolution, complete with the guillotining of the entire upper class.”

The problem is religious and cultural, not political. It doesn’t matter who is in charge. They’re all Hindus and therefore don’t give a damn about human beings beneath them. The grinding poverty is what the “peasants” deserve according to Hindu culture.

This is why so many Hindus fear the Dalits becoming Catholics:

http://www.catholicworldreport.com/Item/451/kill_christians_and_destroy_their_institutions.aspx

http://www.catholic.org/news/international/asia/story.php?id=27995

http://www.ucanews.com/story-archive/?post_name=/1995/03/28/catholic-church-in-orissa-reaffirms-commitment-to-dalits-and-tribals&post_id=47032

The Catholic Dalits know Christianity changes EVERYTHING: http://campaigns.ahrchk.net/jjpallath/mainfile.php/hnews/56/

As long as the Dalits are Hindus they will have little voice - Hinduism says their lot is their lot because of a former life. As Christians, however, especially Catholic Christians, they know their rights, know they are created in God’s image, and demand change. Hence, the persecution of Dalit Christians by Hindu elites.

The pioneers in America numbered far, far fewer than the multitudes currently in India, so applying that ratio is not a valid comparison, IMHO.

We can compare them to the European immigrants in New York City in the early 20th century, then, as NYC was already quite populated. Having a large family is not "multiplying like rabbits", because human beings are not rabbits. In our church, the "H" family has 12 children, the "S" family has 11 children, the other "S" family has 12 children (they cheated, triplets were thrown in), the "B" family has 12 children, and numerous other families have 8 or 9 children. They come from working to professional class, and I would dare you to tell them they are "breeding like rabbits."

For a poor family, children may be the only precious treasure they have. The people defecating in the streets in India aren't doing it because it is crowded, or because they have large families. In fact, the Netherlands are more crowded than India is. Paul Ehrlich, and all the lefties, were so wrong about India and the causes of the poverty there.

You forgot the Caste system, which sentences people to their lot in life at birth.

Imagine the FLIES landing on your food & face.

Obviously, Indians have become somewhat immune to fecal related diseases. Good for them. I’d probably get sick within a week of being there. The smell alone would sicken me.

Train rides must be vomit inducing.

Some cultures are definitely better than others, both for the people & the land they inhabit.
