DETROIT – The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) on Friday became the most prominent religious group in the United States to endorse divestment as a protest against Israeli policies toward Palestinians, voting to sell church stock in three companies whose products Israel uses in the occupied territories.

The General Assembly voted by a razor-thin margin -- 310-303 -- to sell stock in Caterpillar, Hewlett-Packard and Motorola Solutions. Two years ago, the General Assembly rejected a similar divestment proposal by two votes.

Anti-Semitism has always been a sport enthusiastically played by the world’s Western populations.

It was very briefly considered “bad form” after the Nazi excesses of World War II, but it’s back in fashion again.

Your knowledge of that is surely greater than mine.

But there is no excuse for their ignorance of history and current events. It’s still bigotry on their part. As far as I am concerned anyway. I readily admit to being highly opinionated.

Like in the generation of modern Presbyterian missions, some Presbyterians have managed to come out of some of the more wooden corners of theology concerning the role of the Jews. At the least here in the Jews is a people of whom some might become Christians and we don’t know who, so why be gratuitously harsh.

Israel should come to terms that they are God’s chosen people. . .nations including the anti-God Presbyterian Church that go against Israel will be punished. Woe to people that keep their membership with that bunch of apostates. Think of the people who lost their lives building this great nation . . . and to have it literally crumble in a few short years. I just don’t see a comeback but hopefully there will be a harvest of souls believing in the Lord Jesus Christ before His return!

[At the least here in the Jews is a people of whom some might become Christians and we don’t know who]

Actually a guest speaker on Christian faith laid a weird factoid on me once. “Most Jews who grow up in Catholic neighborhoods turn out to be Protestants.”

God’s tag team.

Google for dispensationalism and you’ll see a whale of a lot of debate. But it explains a lot of things pretty well.

I am gonna guess that the late Rev. Mr. D. James Kennedy belonged to some Presbyterian Church that was not PC-USA. Dr. Kennedy worked tirelessly to bring people to Jesus Christ and to be a good pastor to them.

I’ve had the extreme misfortune to have to attend two funeral at the local Presby Church for my neighbor. First for his wife, and now a year later for his teenaged son. I have never felt such a cold, uncaring services in my entire life. There he was, the suede shoe minister replete in his very expensive suit all wired up with his boom mike. At the back of the room ( I won’t call it a chapel) was his sound guy running the sound board and all the video displays. Felt like I’d just dropped in to a rock concert. The other thing that I know is that this particular “church” goes out of it’s way to trash all the other churches in town, and won’t let a youth group member hold an office in their youth organization if he or she is dating outside the faith. I’ll just bet Jesus isn’t pleased.

Check up on what a prospective congregation believes, no matter what the shingle outside the church door says. Do they care about the bible. Do they care about being born again. Does the sacrifice of Christ touch their hearts like nothing else can? Do they have a living relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, or is it like a museum?

Many modern church buildings with large chapels will run sound and projector systems. They are but media. They cannot make a service fundamentally bad or good of themselves. What is being presented upon them makes the difference.

What you describe is vibes that come close to cultishness. It can happen in any denomination.

I left the PCUSA in 2006. It was only a matter of time for the PCUSA to approve divestment. As the conservatives leave the church, the leftists ultimately achieve 51% of the votes.

At some point I will need to change my Free Republic name.

The only good news out of the votes approving homosexual marriage and Israel divestment is that it will hasten the demise of the PCUSA.

Yes, Dr. Kennedy was in the vanguard of the PCA, the Presbyterian Church of America.

OK.
I'll play.

From now on when shopping or ordering anything, I'll ask the salesperson at any store if he or she or the owners are Presbytarians, and continue as is appropriate.

IDIOTS!

Honestly, I can’t dredge up enough interest to educate myself on dispensationalism.

Regardless of what ever religious quirks Presbyterians have about Jews, there is no excusing the appalling ignorance and distorted reasoning that drives this idea that Israel is a barbaric state abusing the noble and innocent Palestinians (PS there is no such thing as a “Palestinian” - they are Arabs) and must be punished.

That Israel should be punished for the crime of defending itself against real barbarians is as perverted thinking as the liberal feminists who just recently categorized as “sick” the notion that women should learn to defend themselves against assaults and rape.
