One-on-one with Rick Perry (part two)
Washington Post ^ | 6-20-14 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 06/22/2014 6:33:27 AM PDT by RKBA Democrat

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is taking seriously his preparation for a possible presidential run, meeting with domestic and foreign policy experts. He is also campaigning for governors. In Iowa, for example, he said, “I’m not worried about [GOP Gov.] Terry Branstad. But we have an important Senate race there.” Branstad, who’s at the top of the ticket, “will raise the tide for everyone.”

Perry is more at ease, less forced in conversation than he was four years ago. He even looks and sounds different. Gone is the Texas swagger (and much of the twang). In his distinctive black eyeglasses, he looks more like a middle-aged businessman than a Texas pol. But that doesn’t mean he is without controversy. He got himself in hot water last week by comparing homosexuality to alcoholism. But unlike in 2012, he quickly corrected course at a GOP gathering in D.C.:

No. Gov. Perry isn’t swearing out-of-state militiamen into the Texas State Guard. First, one has to be a resident of Texas to be in the Guard. Second, there are several prerequisites such as criminal background checks, training, etc.

I can’t speak to whether or not any militia are arriving from out of state. I have not heard of any.

It’s likely that the rumor about being sworn into the Guard evolved from the following:

State Rep Steve Toth (R-The Woodlands) spoke to Texas Department of Public Safety Director, Colonel Steve McCraw about the militia groups coming to Texas. On a Facebook chat thread this morning Toth said, “Steve McCraw is not looking for anyone to show up on the border to help DPS or the Guard. If you would like to join the Guard we would love to have you but don’t show up on the border to help it will only cause confusion and lead to someone getting hurt.” - See more at: http://www.teaparty.org/texas-militia-groups-call-members-to-border-45017/#sthash.dbwudsqW.dpuf

Here’s the problem. One faction of FR refuses to accept the 80% traditional standard and reviles people calling for adherents ‘purists’ blames them to this day for Obama, and keeps helping the right wing as a whole move left.

80% means one in 5 votes is a liberal vote. And yet, we ‘purists’ have bent a full 20%.

Now I defy a single person screaming ‘Purist” (not you) to show the class where Mitt or most of the usual suspects like Perry hit that 80% marks.

But it is not just sheer votes. Mitch and the like regularly spend months pushing hard for liberal policies and fighting the Ted Cruz types. Then, when the vote is solidly locked in for the lib win, they come out and vote against it and their record ‘proves’ their conservative creds.

Nope.

There are core issues. There is an official platform. If people ignore those issues and that platform, they and their supporters are in fact liberal democrats. Because thats what siding with liberal democrats against the cor issues and party platform shows they are.

Yes, we should talk about American jobs. Especially those folks that are seeing their pay reduced or jobs eliminated as a result of an influx of unskilled labor from other countries.

Great point.

The ANTI 80% crowd you meant right? Perhaps I jumbled my post. What I was getting at is that we who are called purists are fine with the 80% that has traditionally guided the right. Show me someone that hits 80% and follows the platform and I vote for them.

But the RandPaul/Perry/Mitt types refuse to go by that. They are good with far less than 50% and to hell with the platform or even 10% as with Romney and in turn scream at us while taking the GOP further left every election.

Yup. As I mentioned in a previous post, no one is going to be absolutely perfect in every way, but too many people are too rigid in their ideology

We're talking about a primary. There is no reason to make concessions when in the primaries. Perry is far from being conservative and his horrendous record should be up for debate. For instance...

Perry is just fine with giving financial aid and in state tuition too ILLEGAL aliens

He made clear he believes conservatives “have no heart” because they did not share his pro-ILLEGAL alien position

He wanted a Superhighway through Texas but opposed a fence on the border

He imposed a nanny-state executive order that would have forced Texas females as young as 11 to get injections of an unwanted, unneeded, and unproven vaccine. The entire Texas state legislature opposed him on this.

He endorsed RINO extraordinaire Mitch McConnell for reelection

He endorsed RINO David Dewhurst for senate over TEA Party favorite, Ted Cruz

He refused to endorse the best conservative in the senate, Ted Cruz. In fact , if Perry had his way Cruz would never have made it to Washington

Just last week Perry praised Hillary on the number one issue that Republicans need to attack her, her horrendous performance as Secretary of State. Perry said Hillary was a "great secretary of state".

Perry’s failures are abundant and his record aberrant. Together, they disqualify him from any serious consideration.

I can find no reports of militia in El Paso. There is nothing on Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr. I’d wager that someone would be posting pictures on Instagram or Twitter if El Paso restaurants were flooded with militia.

All of the current reports about militia on the border are associated with the FB post that was posted here and reported by Breitbart. As a result of that post, my local militia leaders have made a point to speak out about how the Texas State Militia can be called into action. We have not been called.

I did see one tweet from an out-of-state commander indicating that he was ordering a stand down because Perry said the militia were not needed at this time. I can’t confirm the reliability of said tweet.

The biggest reason that we keep playing Groundhog Day is that no one is ever held to account. No one is ever forced to think about anything they do. They merely ‘feel’ like Democrats.

The excuse repeated often that ‘the dem is worse’ was repeated often. Yet lesser evils stood silently for 6 months and said nothing to their voters about the invasion Barry ADVERTIZED FOR in January.

The dem is not worse. The Dem is a mirror image. We see the proof of it when GOP attack conservatives harder than Dems. We see the proof in this mess. We see it in GOP investigations that act as diversions, stalls and pressure relief, but never end with arrest.

We cannot set people just spout BS anymore or we are rehashing 2012. And if thats the case, if no one should be held to their words, lets just call ourselves what we are. The problem. And lets all just go home mow. Because in such a case, what is the point of fighting a ‘war’ we do not believe in in the first place.

Horsesh*t. Perry has never opposed a border fence. His reservations about the fence are limited to the financial and practical feasibility of building and maintaining a fence along the entire Texas border. Those reservations are more than justified. He supports a border fence where it makes sense.

Its outrageous and apparently most Texans don't even care.

Qh! We care...about as much as the rest of the country cared when illegals all stopped in the border states.

All of a sudden people in Virginia and New York have discovered the consequences of the federal government neglecting its duty.

Terrorists have been coming across the border for years while Americans are searched in airports...and require a passport to come back into the country.

No, Rick was quite clear he wanted a smart fence and patchwork, not a real one. We collectively spent years going over this on FR and to say otherwise id simply not supportable with fact and history.

Semantics do not count. Rick Perry opposed a real fence.

He opposes the fence and has said so. I don't see where he mentions maintaining it at all. He opposes it because he does not believe it a viable alternative to the porous border we have now; People will buy ladders? lol!

That is but one of the reasons why Rick Perry is not to be seriously considered for the Republican nomination. His horrendous past combined with his recent praising of Hillary are others. I have not heard the Perry faithful defend his praising Hillary. Why is that?

“No, I don’t support a fence on the border,” he said, while referring to the long border in Texas alone. “The fact is, it’s 1,200 miles from Brownsville to El Paso. Two things: How long you think it would take to build that? And then if you build a 30-foot wall from El Paso to Brownsville, the 35-foot ladder business gets real good.”

This get blown out of proportion quite often. The El Paso unit has the following on their fb page.

All,
In response to all rumors of a Militia activation to combat the border crisis, they are
current FALSE. Yesterday, Gov. Perry tasked DPS to help secure the border and report. He
also called out the administration for lack of action and incompetence. I am staying
well apprised of the situation and will report immediately if the SITREP changes.
Stay Vigilent Patriots and be safe!

Uou know what is funny? Rick seems to think Americans with modern hardware cannot accomplish what China did 3000 years ago.

I also find it funny that we cannot build a fence above ground for 1200 miles, but we ran 20 foot diameter pipes underground much of the distance from Lake Havasu AZ to the Cali metroplex UNDER a desert.

Someone ran a tunnel UNDER the Channel in Europe.

All these excuses mean people do not want border security. If they did, they would support it instead of reasons to help Democrats stop it.

Perry doesn't want a fence, we know that. he'll make any excuse he can to prevent it. I recall one of his reasons for opposition was because it would go through private land. But the Superhighway he supported wouldn't?!

Of course a fence can be built. One was erected here in East San Diego County and it has worked very well. But those who oppose it will find their reasons why, even if they have to fabricate them.
