Scientists ask Obama to protect old growth forest
Boston Herald ^ | June 25, 2014

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — More than 75 scientists are appealing to President Barack Obama to create a policy for preserving old-growth forest.

The U.S. and Canadian scientists sent a letter to the president on Wednesday urging the U.S. Forest Service to draw up plans to conserve ecosystems distinguished by old trees, accumulations of dead woody material and diversity of plant life. Most are found in the Pacific Northwest or Southeast Alaska.

The scientists urge Obama to manage old-growth forest for conservation instead of timber production.

Let’s set a bunch of illegals in there too, natural habitat and such for them to run around in.
Like a terrarium.
Send some wolves, cougar, and grizzlies, maybe a polar bear or two to preserve endangered or threatened species.
Then shake the jar and watch ‘em all fight.

Worst idea to come along in a day or two from this bunch.

Trees and timber are a natural resource that replenishes itself when properly managed. The “scientists” are out of their minds with this request and, I have no doubt odumbo will support their request since he too has lost what mind he had.

contending that we need to leave dead trees laying around......as fuel for firestorms...is really ludicrous..

the area these “scientists” are recommending for “protection” wont be the last.

Another nail for the "No Humans Allowed" coffin.
Conservation does not mean neglect.
We need to be caretakers of the woods, that means maintenance, or we will lose it all in the next fire.

I need a mile-long line of environmental whacoes, gay pride groups, and race mongrels leading up to the White House holding their “executive order request” forms for Obama’s signature.all they have to do is convince the community organizer that the people need managing and the conservatives will hate it, and he’ll sign it. It’s out of control.

Old Growth is a Misnomer, as if it was this ancient sacred thing, given Nature to it’s own devices it would eventually burn down in a forest fire killing all the wittle animals....

We should be able to cut down trees in thin strips across the forest working from one side of the forest to the other slowly and and in these fire breaks burn the un-usable branches and what not simulating the NATURAL forest fire cycle while at the same damned time harvesting wood...

And if you want to get all “Green Peace and Gore Bull Warming” you can bury the damned wood in a salt mine to “sequester carbon” if you really damned well want to....

Clear Cutting = BAD!

Farming the Forest = GOOD!!!

Hell younger trees actually ABSORB MORE CO2 from the damned air than old growth....

Why?

Because they GROW at a faster RATE!!!!!

Farm the damned forest in rows and sections based off toloplogical maps and planned wood harvesting and planned controled fires to simulate the narutal forest fire patterns....

I like to sequester carbon in houses....

But that dead and rotting wood is critical habitat for rare and endangered fungi, insects & other arthropods, molds, and viruses. It is critically important to save that critical habitat. /sarc

Cut and use the old growth, the new will get old soon enough!

Use an ecologist for fuel!

Known fact - as trees get older, they emit MORE CO2 than they collect.

Known fact - a mono culture (trees all the same age/species) is not how nature works. There is age diversity either thru damaged trees, fire or harvesting,

Owls, don't forget owls.

Did you know that in the northwest the Forest Service/Fish & Wildlife Service employs hunters to kill barred owls to protect their sub-species cousins, the spotted owl? Barred owls are bigger and more aggressive and can mate with the spotted owl, but if left unchecked will take over their territory. To prevent that, the federal government actually pays hunters to kill those beautiful birds in the interest of preventing spotted owl disappearance. As with windmills killing golden eagles and thousands of other birds each year, the enviro-nutter agenda trumps common sense in so many ways today.

I wonder how much weight the administration would give a petition by 700 lumbermen to convert those old-growth forests into toilet paper.

“Scientists” have become the new age priests that all must bow their will to, same as the religious leaders of the dark ages. Ignore the fact that these “scientists” are bought and paid for by grant money streams in the hidden political power structure. It’s all manipulation of public opinion. How dare you high school diploma only citizen question a SCIENTIST!?

I am chagrined to admit that I no longer feel great sympathy for those caught in the cauldron of WILDFIRES.
The eco-nuts preventing the clear cutting of fire-breaks, the clearing of fallen timber (read FIRE FUEL) and other proven methods of either preventing firestorm disasters or at least minimizing their annual destruction.
Why do people put up with such a thing as the “Annual wildfire SEASON?”
Forest fires are indeed part of nature, but there are things that can alleviate the destruction to populated areas.
The victims are told to rebuild that which they lost for “such a good and noble cause.” Stupidity rules the day.
