LASCASSAS, Tenn. As Senator Thad Cochran eked out a victory over a conservative insurgent Tuesday night in Mississippi, Tea Party members here were making a bold even defiant proclamation: They will win the Senate seat in Tennessee.
The activists hope a little-known state representative named Joe Carr, a self-described underdog who has attacked efforts to overhaul the nations immigration laws, can oust Lamar Alexander, 73, the Republican senator, former governor and two-time presidential candidate who began working on Capitol Hill in the late 1960s.
Whats next on the calendar? Joe Carr, Mr. Carr declared, as a country band played for hundreds of his supporters at his annual T-Bones and Politics fund-raiser on a farm in this rural community south of Nashville. Tomorrow begins the 45-day push for a constitutional conservative Tennessee.
Given that Chris McDaniel, Mr. Cochrans Tea Party challenger, lost Tuesday night, such optimism might seem out of place. But Tea Party conservatives here and in Washington say that, if anything, the close call in Mississippi and what appeared to be Mr. Cochrans reliance on Democrats to win his runoff race has emboldened them further.

Well. I’m glad we are emboldened but talk is cheap. Let’s make clear the GOPe can not do this to us yet again.
Do each of those six have insurmountable principled objections to the other five ... or is some ego at work here?
Apparently, Carr is the only challenger with any kind of name ID by the uninformed of TN.
Lamar! sadly was the big winner on Tuesday; these things are based on “waves”, and no wave developed in TX on March 4, when the first primary was held.
Since the primary isn’t until August, I would not be surprised if Lamar! and the GOPe run the same crap in Shelby County (Memphis) against Carr.
Frankly it’s a sign that we here in TN are getting sick of Lamar! But his machine will probably prevail.
