Stop paying the electric bill and theyll turn off the lights. Cable TV, however, is no longer quite so essential. Its now possible to stop paying the cable bill and enjoy much, if not all of your favorite programming at great savings.
But is cutting the cord right for you? To help answer that question weve created a new interactive cord-cutting calculator .
Heres how it works: Answer a few questions about your TV watching needs, including your favorite shows and sports leagues, and the tool will crunch the numbers and give you several options to best approximate your cable TV experience.

“..put up an outdoor antenna and can pull in a surprising number of high quality digital stations. ..”
Same here, as I just said.
I love to record, and our dvd recorder just broke.
So we bought another one, but it won’t allow you to record. Then we got a DTV converter box, and can now record.
I wonder why the people who make dvd recorders don’t make it accessible to record any more without going around it (a DTV converter box). Is there a new law so that we are forced to purchase cable, or a dish, if we wish to record?
Walking dead is available on Amazon literally minutes after it airs on TV and I bet Game of Thrones follows very soon.
I am hoping it is coming. Even though I don’t like professional sports, particularly, the sounds of NFL on a fall Sunday afternoon are powerful.
I could maybe subscribe to their audio - $20 for the season. I do that for baseball. Same thing; not a fan, but love the sounds.
NCAA will figure it out soon.
Make it so!!
Just did the same, the cost doubled after my ‘trial’ period was over. Funny, my TV is never on, unless I’m trying to find the Blackhawks :) Ah, such freedom.
Sounds like that DirectTV ad scam.
“Watch hundreds of broadcast shows on your TV for totally free, no monthly bills. Free network TV. “
Yep, watch the three networks ABC, CBS and NBC for free, except commercials.
I have worked too hard to have to put up with that crap I had to when I was a teen.(before cable was available)
I have a Roku ... love it. And with the Watch ESPN channel, I can watch all the World Cup I want, and anything else ESPN3 shows.
They have a lot of channels available that you can’t get on a smart TV.
Roku + Plex + PlayOn (for live TV) = Much joy
I’m this close to dropping the landline. We’re only keeping it in case of emerceny because out in the country, electric/cable/cell/internet service is iffy. But in this economy, something has to give.
plus another 100 spanish channels
Thanks for that info! I’ve researched a lot and it looks good. We’re locked in with DirecTv until Sept so figured I’d get a Roku in Aug to try it.
I kept my landline for a few years because I live in the middle of nowhere and the signal was iffy. Fortunately, about a year ago They put up a cell tower about 3/4 of a mile away. As soon as I found out, I told ATT to KMA and bought a decent cell phone. I have saved a ton of money since then. If you have reception issues, though I can understand your reluctance.

“I only get the channels I want”
How do you do that?
I haven’t watched or owned a TV in 15 years. I can’t even stand being around them anymore.
“Hmmm I must be doing it wrong then I watched all ten episodes and I don’t have cable or Sat or even an antenna.”
I watched it legally - in real time presentation on the parent network that created it and owns the copyright thereto.
www.freevip.eu find it and you will be happy
Exactly!
I use Roku and I love it. There is even an ap for my cell phone to become my remote when I lose the remote. Netflix is my go to on the Roku:) I love the no commercials and I sometimes get addicted to a TV program and I watch all the episodes in one after another.
Somehow I can picture Laz having a very popular weekly variety show called “I’d hit it!”... something akin to The Man Show where girls on trampolines are replaced with “Down At The Rifle Range With The Ladies Of Delta Phi Epsilon”... and there would be a segment called “Guilty or Not Guilty?”
Roku + Plex, plus I also use NZBDrone.
No channels I don't want, plus no commercials, plus no temptation to just sit down in front of the tube and veg.
