Republican National Committee officials announced recently that the party's nominating convention for the next presidential election will be held in Cleveland or Dallas. “These world-class cities have the ability to provide our next presidential nominee a launching pad that will put a Republican in the White House in 2016,” said site-selection chairman Enid Mickelsen.
Given the ultimate goal, the GOP's big bash should be in Ohio. A lot more than one election is riding on the next campaign for the Oval Office. After losing the popular vote in five of the last six presidential contests, many of the Republican faithful are wondering whether the party establishment is still capable of winning nationally.
In recent years, Republicans have been adept at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, losing to President Obama in 2012 even though his job-approval rating was below 50 percent, and failing to take back the Senate in 2010 or 2012 despite favorable odds. The Grand Old Party will lose again if it doesn't do something differently. The Dallas area is a conservative stronghold, but the GOP is assured of winning Texas in 2016.

If the republicans have their convention in Cleveland, the republican candidate will win Ohio in the presidential election.

Cleveland is OK. Dallas is OK.
The city isn’t the issue.
The issue is the GOP-E losing the conservative base of the party.
Besides which, Dallas gets really hot in the summer.
In the minds of the voters, the site of the convention won't amount to a hill of beans. It's what goes on at the convention that is important. Had the Tea Party not been totally and completely excluded from the 2012 GOP National Convention, maybe more Tea Partiers would have gone out and voted in the November election.
Dallas would be interesting: the end of Rick Perry and Dewhurst.

2008 Minneapolis, MN GOP lost the state
2004 New York, NY GOP lost the state
2000 Philadelphia, PA GOP lost the state
1996 San Diego, CA GOP lost the state
Having the convention in Cleveland is no guarantee that they'll take Ohio.
There’s talk that Columbus is in the running for the Democrat convention. When was the last time both conventions occurred in the same state?
How about nominate a genuine conservative and court disaffected white voters.
The way conventions have been staged over the last 30 or so years, they might as well be held in some TV studio. Nothing unscripted ever happens anymore. There are no more floor fights, no more arguments over platforms, and absolutely zero suspense over who will win the nomination.
Frankly, conventions are a big snooze today. The decisions have all been made long before. IMHO, they are a waste of time and money, and just an excuse for folks to go out of town and party.

Eh, not so much, I believe. No more than a couple years ago, a security guard was about to escort some ladies from a theater in the Playhouse Square area across to the parking areas. She was purported to say, and I paraphrase, “if you hear any gunshots, just keep down, and keep moving”.
Dropping Pubes into Cleveland would be asking for trouble, imho. To me, it smacks of another stupid move by the RNC.
