Will the United States ever be free again?

As we all embark on our Fourth of July holiday weekend – stuffing our faces with hot dogs and watching fireworks – it’s too easy to forget what we’re celebrating. We don’t remember the truly horrible beginnings of our nation. Specifically, I’m referring to the signers of the Declaration of Independence, those 56 brave men who pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to give us liberty.

These men weren’t stupid. They knew what would happen by affixing their names on that document. Legend has it that the elegant and oversized “John Hancock” signature wasn’t prominent because Mr. Hancock was vain. Rather, it was a poke in the eye – “Take THAT, King George” – so the monarch could read the name without spectacles.

Whether or not the legend is true, it says something about the signers. In the mists of time and the gloss of hero-worship, it’s easy to forget that the Founding Fathers weren’t declaring independence from a foreign government. They were declaring independence from their own government. By signing that document, they were committing treason during an unforgiving age when treason meant endlessly ugly ways to be tortured, persecuted, or killed.

It’s like jumping off a cliff. Once you jump, you can’t unjump, and we have very definitely jumped. The cliff is freedom. The rocks below, tyranny.

I have gay friends, lesbian friends, black friends, Asian friends, etc.,...what I don’t much have anymore is Liberal friends (by choice). Lots of people in ‘minority’ groups are still Conservative. They just aren’t recognized (or wanted) by the Powers that be in this country today.

Yep - they're not all radical nut-jobs and many have more conservative values and appreciate what America used to stand for. The woman who hosted the cookout knows I carry and had no issues with me being armed while at her house - she wants me to help her select a weapon for her own personal defense. When we get into the religious "debates" on FR, many have problems that don't allow for such attitudes as being valid, or they cry that it doesn't matter because they are, gasp, sinners. I prefer the intellectual approach and have found this particular crew to be wide open to intellectual discourse, up to and including homosexuality. I can have a more satisfying, and rational conversation with them than many here on FR.

I’ll take your thought and restate it.

It’s like the second law of thermodynamics.... Population flows from poorer regions to richer regions. Never the reverse

The influx be it slow or rapid, causes governments to adjust and even fail.

The wealth of North America and Europe is producing a population flow from the poor hinderlands to the south.

No, son, I first moved to central Europe. You obviously do not know that I am retired, choosing to live my final years exploring other countries.

Your ancestors? Do you even know them? I know mine.
My great great great uncle was America’s Uncle Sam, 1812, Troy New York.

Now, tell me YOUR plan to recover the America that I grew up in. First clue...It will not be in my lifetime.
Now, go find your own life and enjoy what is left of it.

We are one Bundy ranch away from the resolution conflict. It will happen as too many American patriots still exist to sit by and watch the country die. Too many people grew up free to accept this police state. But the American people are slow to anger. Its coming to a boil slowly but surely.

I have a theory that the human race isn't really conditioned to be "free" at all

KNEEL!
Is not this simpler?
Is this not your natural state?
It's the unspoken truth of humanity that you crave subjugation.
The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life's joy in a mad scramble for power. For identity.
You were made to be ruled.
In the end, you will always kneel!

First of all, don’t call me son. I am probably as old or older than you at 65. I am also retired and have traveled the world many times over and lived in many foreign countries during my military career. None of them was as great as this country and it made me appreciate how blessed I was to be born here. As far as my lineage, my eighth great-grandfather came to this country in 1612 and yes I know every one of them and where they are buried. My fourth great-grandfather literally stood side-by-side with Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry and others in Williamsburg and Richmond and he fought in the American Revolution along with his brothers. I will do everything in my power to maintain the liberties and freedom that my forefathers and founding fathers fought and died for. My Congressmen hear from me weekly and I contribute financially to those politicians and other causes that will look after the best interest of this country. It may not be in my lifetime that we take back the America I grew up in, but I will do my best to insure it for my children and grandchildren. And if the need ever arises, I will indeed take up arms once again to defend this great nation. You have a nice day in the Philippines.

What would it take to anger Texans to action? Maybe if the feds raided a church and burned it to the ground, killing all the women and children inside, then they would act.

I remember well the good congressman from Texas, Jack Brooks, who chaired the committee looking into the Waco incident, saying in an open mic incident, if he had been in charge he would have lobbed a bomb into that water tower the first day. So much for getting at the truth.

You have a good point regarding the influx of poorer people into the U.S., but there’s more to it than just that. I’m referring to the attitudes I find even among middle-class and upper-class people.

Obama is a fascist who is dismantling America piecemeal, not from incompetence but through intentional planning.

Amazing how many even in Freeperland do not recognize this fact.

I said before he was ever elected, that if elected he would have a plan to never leave office. He might leave, if the people wake up, but I doubt they ever will.

“ANYONE moving to the state of Red Hampshire will be making the biggest mistake of their entire lives...do NOT even THINK about it.”

Really?

Is it high taxes? Zero state income tax and zero sales tax. No, probably not that.

Is it the gun laws? Open carry legal and common, license to carry concealed costs $15, private sales legal and common, very few carry restrictions. No, probably not that either.

Is it the high crime? NH has the 3rd lowest violent crime rate in the country. So probably not that.

So what are you talking about?

I'm IN frickin' Red Hampshire...it is a corrupt to the core sh*thole, and here you go spewing the same propaganda that Freak Staters pimp to get gullible idiots seeking 'freedom' to move here.

My wife and I have been swatted for growing TOMATOES, we have been hounded by some of the nastiest M*ssholes ever to set foot in this state, their corrupt 'open primary' system has left conservatives stuck with sh*t GOP candidates over the past few election cycles, and it is coming again this year.

High taxes? You bet...some of the highest property taxes in the nation, 9.5% on meals and lodging, tolls on anything with more than two lanes, taxes when you register your car, on and on. They get their blood money, believe me.

Plenty of crime. Back in the eighties, teens could 'cruise' Elm Street in Manchester...now; they'd be taking their lives in their hands. People need to READ the local papers and watch local news on line to get a TRUE feel for what goes on around here...or you can believe the 'Free State' BS and move here. Go for it, damn fools.

1Sa 8:5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

1Sa 8:6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.

1Sa 8:7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

The article is all true, and I've said many of the same things myself. However, I'm optimistic. I think we've turned a corner. The incident that gives me reason for optimism is the Bundy Ranch showdown. It was a small thing, but like the cloud on the horizon, no bigger than a man's hand, it signals a change in the weather. People are getting fed up with the way things are going.

As another example, note the protests against settling the "child invaders" in the interior of the US, instead of pushing them back across the border. One more sign people are getting fed up. And not just fed up, but starting to take action.

Yes, it's worth bemoaning the current state of affairs. But that's not enough. The time is getting ripe for action. Let us be ready to take whatever action is needed.
