By all rights, the GOP should easily pick up the North Carolina Senate seat currently held by Kay Hagan. Except:
Most evenings, Sean Haugh is a pizza deliveryman.
But every other week or so, the Libertarian Party’s Senate nominee in North Carolina opens a few craft beers on the counter of the bar in his campaign manager’s basement. He takes deep gulps from a pint glass bearing an image of Austrian-school economist Murray Rothbard and expresses his Everyman frustrations with the current political system into a video camera.
So far, Haugh’s campaign barely exists anywhere but on YouTube. But it is doing surprisingly well in a high-stakes Senate contest in which candidates and outside groups have already spent more than $15 million.
Four polls lately put his support somewhere between 8 and 11 percent — not enough to suggest a realistic possibility of winning, but conceivably enough to affect the outcome of the race. The same surveys show the margin between incumbent Democrat Kay Hagan and her GOP challenger, state House Speaker Thom Tillis, at six points or less.
When I see a candidate who claims to be for small government but whose candidacy will hand a Senate seat to someone who will vote for Harry Reid as Majority Leader, I see red. It’s time for people to denounce Haugh as the spoiler and egotist he is.

If the money trail for this guy is anything like the Libertarian Candidate that gave the Virginia Governors race to the Democrat loook for a Soros Connected rich donor from Texas.
Didn’t this guy get the memo that only members of the Washington Uniparty are allowed in the race? How dare this peon run in the race! If he does, it won’t be the GOP stooge’s fault when he loses, it’ll be this guy who just doesn’t know his place. Sheesh! The nerve of some people!

This is bad, but in South Carolina is having a new Independent who is tea party going after Linda Graham so that might allow us to finally get rid of that jerk. Sometimes Independent candidates do help. I continue to thank Nader daily for his contribution to our electing George W. Bush.
Now the republicans openly attack conservatives. If smaller, less intrusive government is the goal, we need people running on small government.

Doesn't sound like there is one. If his campaign consists of You Tube videos then that's about as bare-bones as you can be.
But in a tight race 3 or 4 percent can be the deciding factor. Look at Florida in the 2000 presidential election. Nader took 1.6% of the vote and handed the state, and the presidency, to Bush.

How many Libtardians are there elected to congress, house and senate? Zero?
If they never get elected to anything, what is their purpose?
What would your advice be: Hagan, Tillis, or Haugh? What should conservatives do in cases like this and how does it fit into a strategy for conservatives to gain power in both the Republican Party (or whatever conservative party replaces it) and the national government?
You beat me to it...”doing surprisingly well” is media-speak for having just enough money to do events and limited advertising to keep a candidate’s name in front of the voters, and siphon off GOP votes.
Incidentally, that “libertarian” in Virginia is at it again; Robert Sarvis has collected enough signatures to get his name on the Senate ballot in November, along with incumbent ‘rat Mark Warner and GOP challenger Ed Gillespie. Sarvis is listed as an “attorney, businessman and software developer,” but I have yet to see any evidence as to how he supports himself—other than the Soros money machine.
