Harry Reid: ‘We’re going to do something’ on Hobby Lobby

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Monday that Democrats will take up legislation in the “coming weeks” to address last month’s Supreme Court decision that allowed some employers with religious objections to opt out of Obamacare’s contraception mandate.

Democrats on Capitol Hill have overwhelmingly criticized the high court’s ruling in the Hobby Lobby case and are working to craft a response that would restore the coverage, though no specifics have yet been outlined.

“We’re going to do something about the Hobby Lobby legislation,” Reid said on the Senate floor Monday as he ticked off the Senate’s to-do list over the next several weeks.

[ “We’re going to do something about the Hobby Lobby legislation,” Reid said on the Senate floor Monday ]

A supreme court decision is NOT Legislation, and if he wanted to “do Something” about “the legislation” the only thing he could do is Repeal Obamacare....

Once the SCOTUS issues a decision, isn’t it the law of the land? Or does that only work when the Democrats like the decision? /sarc

Exactly, and also, the left always, always, plays offense. I would say the putative right plays defense, but at least our so-called representatives on “the right”, don’t even do that even more. I think about half of them are secretly playing for the other team.

I’m tired of these people with little Bill of Rights tell the government what to do.

It’s time the little people come to heel.

Congress can exempt federal laws from the RFRA. I don’t think it would have a chance of passing, though. The Hobby Lobby decision was mostly about the applicability of the RFRA rather than a constitutional case.

Laws begin as ideas. First, a representative sponsors a bill. The bill is then assigned to a committee for study. If released by the committee, the bill is put on a calendar to be voted on, debated or amended. If the bill passes by simple majority (218 of 435), the bill moves to the Senate.

It’s time the big God was called back into the picture.

He’s omnipresent to be sure... but right now it is as with His back turned to us, because we turned our backs to Him.

This was a decision against a rule instituted by the secretary of HHS, not against the law itself.

Hairy Reed is the result of a botched late term abortion. His brains were vacuumed out of his skull, but he somehow survived.

Bills of attainder are illegal in the US. Then again, Reid is a criminal.

Little hard to “do” something in the Senate without the House.

The Republicams need to get out in front of this as not a contraception issue but and abortion pill issue! Every time I hear dem’s, media, and others talk about the Court taking away free contraception I want to scream! In my opinion, an abortion pill is Not contraception! The abortion pill is legal and if a woman wants to take one she should have to pay for it herself!
