O'Malley: U.S. shouldn't send immigrant children back to 'certain death'

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley advocated for sympathy for the surge of young Central American immigrants flooding the U.S. southern border, arguing that to turn the children away without due process would be un-American given what violence awaits in their home countries.

"We are not a country that should turn children away and send them back to certain death," he told reporters Friday at a National Governors Association meeting in Nashville. ....

O'Malley said the children deserve due process under U.S. law.

"They should have their ability to make their case for protection and asylum in the United States," he said.

"I believe that it is contrary to everything that we stand for as a people to try to summarily send back to death, whether it's in famine; death whether it's in the middle of the ocean; death whether it's in a war torn area or death in a place where gangs are the greatest threat to stability and the rule of law and Democratic institutions in this hemisphere."

Martin O’Malley: Don’t send kids to ‘certain death’ - July 11, 2014 - During a press conference with other Democrats at meeting of the National Governors Association in Nashville, O’Malley insisted the young would-be migrants deserved due process in the immigration system.

“We are not a country that should send children away and send them back to certain death,” he said, adding: “I believe that we should be guided by the greatest power we have as a people, and that is the power of our principles. Through all of our great world religions, we are told that hospitality to strangers is an essential human dignity.”

O’Malley said the facilities housing the children look more like a scene from a “local Humane Society than a humane country.” He called them “kennels” and said the youth should be placed in less restrictive settings, such as with family members or in the foster care system.

He also described the children as being “refugees” from crime-ridden neighborhoods.

certain death??

what??

The UN says they have universal healthcare and all kids are immunized and the first lady of Guatemala even said they were not refugees fleeing violence. Their country is not violent, she said.

Hey Cardinal, get a clue.

Due process? I say they have no standing as illegal aliens. After all, Americans never seem to have standing in our courts these days. Deport immediately when caught.

Baltimore, Maryland, a city in his own state, has a higher murder rate than Guatemala. Sending them to Maryland could be more dangerous and cruel than sending them home.

Somehow I think the place they left may be safer than a lot of places here.

Oh for crying out loud, they are not facing certain death, or at least no more than we all are!

You’d think there was a holocaust going on in Central America, but there isn’t. Just the same old crap.

This will be the next lie, that somehow things have gotten so much worse down there.....so much worse that nobody, not even us news junkies ever heard of it.

If a bunch of Venezuelans arrived, I’d believe it, as it is that’s nonsense.

Will this O’Malley (and he is a world class imbecile) be the left-wing challenger to Hillary? Quite frankly I’d think she’d run rings around this guy.

I read the article and I didn't see any where that O’Malley said..”and please send 10,000 of the unaccompanied youths to Maryland. We'll take care of them. Also, please include about 7,000 or more of the teens.”

Until he says that he is a major hypocrite.

I wish that we had a legitimate media who would ask the Governor of Maryland if he's seriously accusing the presidents of Mexico and Guatemala of presiding over "death" camps.

Where was Hillary Clinton? Where was John Kerry?

How could country-sponsored "certain death" have gone unnoticed in OUR hemisphere until now?

Is this another Rwanda?

Are the Democrats now accusing our neighbors to the south of willful negligence while widespread death is occurring all around them?

And why didn't the media ferret this out? Why is it only now that someone is calling it out?

And how did it come to be that the governor of Maryland is the one who found it out?

If we gave asylum to every kid from a crime ridden neighborhood, we would have billions rushing our borders, landing in our airports and coming in container ships by sea. When is his madness going to stop? We should have governors like O’Malley, who make such stupid comments, taken out of office by whatever means possible.

"Martin O’Malley: Don’t send kids to ‘certain death’..."

.... These people are so predictable .... Heck ... even I predicted a month ago that the Republicans and the Tea Party would be portrayed as wanting to literally ... Kill the Children .... and Send them to their DEATH ..... Heck ..... Do the Republicans and Tea Party even have even a tiny loving compassionate bone in their collective evil bodies? .....Good luck on trying to defend against that one folks. At least that is what the next phase of this Psy-Ops operation will be for the Democrat Socialist rulers of this country.

... Of course the Republicans and the rest of the country do know that Bush's TVPR Act (Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act) of 2008 that is being absolutely abused and purposely misinterpreted to facilitate the invasion of the US by minor children, was actually named to protect minor children caught up in and to combat sex trafficking south of the border right? Therefore .... why the heck are almost ALL of these invaders being allowed into the US if next to none of them qualify for entry under the TVPR Act?

O’Malley talks like he might have been spending a lot of time in Colorado and Washington lately. What an uninformed idiot! “Certain death” my @$$. If what the commie ‘RATS are alleging is actually going on down there, don’t you think it’s time for us to get the sleazebags at the UN off their duffs and maybe “pass a resolution” or something. This crap with the gangbanger invaders is something they should be trying to stop. That’s what the U.S. gives them billions of dollars to do. Not to sit on their asses crackin’ pistachios.

"Are they sending these children to South Chicago or Detroit?"

Exactly. And if they send enough of them, they will make their own South Chicago or Detroit in your own city. The unemployment they create will induce kids to fall into criminal activity to survive. The unemployment problem with our youth is the biggest driver to the illegal drug industry. The minority youth are affected the most. We will have a 10x increase in the Trayvon Martins stalking our neighborhoods with a hoodie and a AR-15. Your daughters will disappear into the White Slave market. You sons will be seduced to shoot up heroin and your homes will be ransacked by home invasion. Our prisons will be a new employment opportunity. This nation which stands on the morality of the Christian faith will be overcome from within.

All this because we didn't have a president who did not heed to Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution:

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."

I am not optimistic.

What hyperbole! Really? Gangs? Think Detroit over the 4th Weekend with 18? murders and dozens of injuries. But say the above is true, then how many do we take in from around the world to be compassionate and still maintain our own national identity? I've been asking that question for decades as a dues paying member of FAIR.

HOW MANY?
10 a month?
100 a month?
1,000 a month?
10,000 a month?
100,000 a month?
HOW MANY?

No one ever has answered me, because there is no reasonable answer. That's the way of life on this Rock. People (including children) die and have hardships. Hell, I lived in cars in my youth and barely had little to nothing to eat at times. But I worked my way out of it. Yes, it's nothing compared to the children in Africa.

Screw the third world. Let them gestate in their home-grown hell holes. They've had the opportunities and funds from USA tax-payers and other countrys' dollars and have done little with it. As I've often said, not all cultures are equal, and that includes Central America migrants.

Send Them Back,
including the so-called children!

by O’Malley’s logic, we should invite all of Africa, too - and half of Asia

it is not the fault of the US that the foreign countries are corrupt and dangerous. The world is dangerous most places outside the USA (and some places inside the USA).

Instead of blaming the USA for returning the illegals, blame the countries they’re coming from

Actually, the ex-pats do that to try to avoid fedgov taxes and live in a nation that doesn't suppress them.

"What is wrong with Democrats? Is it some sort of Virus that destroys their Common Sense?"

Yes, it is something like a virus that invades thinking brain cells and corrupts them into non-productivity and shifts those same cells into "feelings".

Always keep in mind the word "Utopia". The socialist/commie Democrats still believe it's a workable system. It's just a matter of how much they try and massage the communist system to make it work, according to their twisted beliefs.

Of course, we all know it doesn't work, but try telling the reasons why to a commie. I have seen first hand why it doesn't work way back in the 60's. I went to a hippie commune and saw them arguing over who would produce what and fighting over who should produce more, while others sat on their ass getting high. They all fell apart because some would not work as much as others. Think the Soviet Union.

Rep. Gutierrez responds to Sen. Kirk's remarks on immigrant children - July 11, 2014 - After Republican Sen. Mark Kirk said Thursday that 429 unaccompanied minors from the Mexican border crisis were in Chicago and urged they undergo criminal background checks, he drew fire today from an immigrant-rights group and Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Chicago.

Jennifer Chan, with the National Immigrant Justice Center in Chicago, said today that the children — the number of whom she declined to specify — were in “Chicagoland” shelters whose locations were not disclosed so as to protect the children’s safety and privacy. She would not say whether “Chicagoland” meant the city and its suburbs.

“I think that Sen. Kirk is making a lot out of nothing,” she said, describing the long-standing shelters as secure. “It’s not something people should panic about. Children aren’t running loose on the streets or anything.

“The children are in the secure custody of HHS. It’s not a detention setting; it’s a kid’s shelter. But they can’t just walk out the door.”

Gutierrez reacted to Kirk’s statement with even sharper criticism, saying Kirk “should be ashamed of himself.”

“Rather than exploiting and demonizing children to score political points, how about the senator works with the president to solve a national problem?” Gutierrez asked.

A: Many experts say that while tens of thousands of children are fleeing Central America because of gang violence and criminal activity, most cannot prove they qualify for asylum after entering the U.S.

There is a small chance the children will get asylum, immigration attorney and law professor David Simmons said. Simmons, who teaches at the University of Denver law school and has 30 years of experience as an immigration lawyer, said even being forced to join gangs, as many Central American kids claim, does not necessarily qualify as being persecuted.

“If you’re a victim of gang violence, you haven’t been singled out for political persecution,” he said. “It may be a very good reason to get out of your country, but it’s not political persecution.”

http://www.chron.com/news/world/article/Q-A-on-push-to-treat-young-immigrants-as-refugees-5608487.php

I guess children in Detroit & Chicago would qualify for asylum for being “persecuted” by liberals interpretation of the law!

No, and we likely will not, ever have PROOF of such.

However, it is the seriousness of the potential, the urgency and compassion for the fear and do-gooder intentions that is imperative here, right?

Actually, there are some bleeders out there in Demoland that believe that. But it really just is about future Democrat voters, or at the least, impair this country to the point where a complete breakdown occurs and real tyranny can rise from the ashes.
