More criminals could be hired as police officers for the countrys biggest force after recruitment rules were relaxed.
Reformed burglars, muggers and drug dealers may be on the beat for the Met Police after it vowed to look again at applicants who had previously been rejected because of their criminal past.
The shake-up is part of efforts by the force to hire 5,000 staff by 2016 and also includes a ban on employing those who live outside London in order to reflect the capitals diversity.
A spokesman for the College of Policing told Metro that forces were advised that it is not possible to set out a full list of convictions that will preclude a person from becoming a police officer.
The Mets HR director Robin Wilkinson told the Evening Standard: We are saying that one minor wrongdoing should not deter you from being an effective police officer. Of course, an armed robber could not be a police officer, nor could a murderer.
More than 900 police officers and community support officers across England and Wales had criminal records, 2012 figures showed.
The convictions included supplying cannabis, domestic violence, robbery and burglary.
I certainly hope that this idea doesn't cross the pond.
“Biggest gang in town” ping.
A Clockwork Orange was a documentary after all...
this worked out soooo well for washdc

children are running govt these days
Oh, gosh, where to start? Petty crooks are petty people who lack the will to become good crooks. But with a badge they can really become good crooks without really applying themselves.
In the 1960’s McNamara came up with a plan to put 100,000 juvenile delinquents into the military. Judges gave the choice of prison or the military. Maybe it helped a few. But the rest gummed up the military justice system until they were gone. You can’t just fire somebody for robbery, rape or murder in the military. They have to be investigated and receive justice. The same will be true here. Except the standards for cops is a lot lower and the possibility of getting caught is too.
Time for British dog owners to buy their pooches body armor.
That thought occurred to me. I wonder why it didn’t occur to the London Po-po?
“Time for British dog owners to buy their pooches body armor.”
The dog shooting episodes are most likely happening because the cops are being trained to shoot dogs. It is, apparently, illegal to pepper spray them. Tasering them probably wastes power and therefore isn’t green.
Celebrate diversity.
Orwell and Burgess were visionaries.
It might be good to have a few in training support. So many cops are so squeaky clean they cant recognize a drug deal unless its in the open and right in front of them.
Go on the Internet and look up the standards of police departments now...and try to find those same standards 15 yrs ago...they have all dropped significantly...
Some departments went from 2 - 4 yr college education - down to a high school dip...and we all know that recent graduates from the public school system can’t write, let alone think for themselves...sure there’s the 21 yr old...but think for a moment, what 21 yr old do you want coming into your life to attempt to investigate a crime that you or a family member were involved in...
I saw it in the state I was in - used to be zero tolerance for drug use - then no one applied because of the low salary those in college had at least smoked “The Mary Jane” and some other stuff....next thin g you know - standards out the window!
Military is going the same way - even as I type - the federal govt is having a very difficult time finding a college grad with a 4 yr BS in Computer/IT, that has certain cert’s already, and 4-8 yrs experience in the field - to slot in a a position for cyber warfare - but then there’s the polygraph and the SSBI invasion into one’s life....NO ONE IS SIGNING UP or calling the recruiters! They can make more money with those 3 criteria in the corporate world without the fear of their background being exposed...
Standards are there for a reason - they should never be dropped so the undesirables can filter in and corrupt the whole entity... Chelsea Manning and Eddie Snowden are two prime recent examples!
“Community policing” is the last nail in the coffin of many once-great cities.
Orwell was brilliant; he had a first-hand view of how communism works. “Animal Farm” used to be required reading for many schoolchildren; now the teachers (as the pigs) would never want them reading it.
They have a saying, “Let the goat be the gardener...”
That’ll get you an empty garden and a fat goat.
They call it “cabrito” in Mexico...
The Artful Dodger will become an inspector
