US says photos show Russian artillery fired on Ukraine
Yahoo News ^ | July 27, 2014 | AFP

The United States on Sunday released satellite images to bolster its claim that Russian artillery has fired across the border into Ukraine, targeting government forces in support of separatist rebels.

The four images, prepared by the office of the Director of National Intelligence and forwarded to reporters by the State Department, show sections of the Russia-Ukraine frontier.

Two show what the US government alleges are Russian batteries on its own territory -- one group of multiple rocket launchers and another of self-propelled howitzers.

Pictures also show impact craters near military positions on the Ukrainian side of the frontier.

A third picture shows what Washington alleges is Russian-supplied heavy weaponry being fired by separatists from within Ukraine.

"The wide area of impacts near the Ukrainian military units indicates fire from multiple rocket launchers. The bottom impact crater inset shows impacts within a local village," the caption said.

Moscow denies directly intervening in the Ukraine conflict and has accused Washington of mounting a smear campaign against it.

Washington turned up the pressure Thursday, alleging Russia had fired across the border and planned to deliver "heavier and more powerful multiple rocket launchers" to its rebel allies.

Then, the State Department cited only "intelligence information" to back up its claim before releasing the photographs on Sunday to strengthen its case.

Ukraine also claims two of its fighter jets were downed by missiles fired from Russian territory, but its US ally has yet to confirm this.

Fears of the damage that Russian arms could do in the hands of Ukraine's separatists increased sharply after a civilian Malaysian airliner was shot down over rebel territory with the loss of 298 lives.

I also checked the State Department Website for Press releases.

NOTHING:
http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2014/index.htm

The U.S. State Department twitter account:
https://twitter.com/search?q=state%20department&src=typd

did retweet the pics from the account of United States Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffery Pyatt;
https://twitter.com/GeoffPyatt/status/493400686269566976

who retweeted them from UKRAINFORM;
http://www.ukrinform.ua/ukr/news/amerikanski_suputniki_zafiksuvali_yak_rosiyski_gradi_gatyat_po_ukraiini_foto_1958765

a pro-Kiev gov-run Propaganda site, known for putting out false info, like claiming Strelkov has fled several times, the rebels were fleeing Ukraine, the Russians were going to invade, several times, yada, yada.

It’s too bad that the Uk gov in Kiev can’t get the location of the Ukrainian border right on their own pics, doncha think?

As I said, the State Department hasn’t OFFICIALLY acknowledged it, and can now deny that they had anything to do with it.

Standard Obama/OFA operating procedure.

I actually used Ukrainform as a source, when the civil war began, but I found them to be even more unreliable than EuroMaidanPR, and that is really saying something.

Oh Chip....it is you that doesn’t get it! Sheesh!

The Daily Mail is one of Europe’s fast becoming rag sites....much like Star and some of those published here....so it’s not exactly the ideal for a US administration to use to “ISSUE” their stuff with on matters significant to foreign policy.

Oh I give up....you just not getting it.

Note the article...
they don’t SAY they got it from the State Department, but from “US Officials”, which likely means one of Kerry’s little minions, or from Pyatt’s twitter account.

the SOURCE is Ukrainform, NOT the State Department.

Thanks...you went further than I did...glad you find more evidence that there's nothing there.I couldn't find anything “Official”...and it needs to be at least that on such a serious matter.....particularly since Russia didn't hesitate "Officially" claiming there's. BTW....That actually says something about 'the public' in Russia and US....regardless if they like or don't like what Putin's doing.....they're watching the game... and loves it when their leader appears more statesman and official than ours....that just feeds their already sky high approval of him.......And look what we're stuck with!

Oh Obama will deny it.....remember how long it took before they finally Officially responded that they couldn't say Russia shot the plane down......but by then the Obama machine had twisted the minds of those he intended to manipulate...and they were easy to manipulate with the MSM in lock step.

The SOURCE is Ukraniform, NOT the State Department....

How closely are they connected to Kiev’s Post?....who screw up a host of things? Just wondering if you knew.

I’m going to check out Ukrainform.....they may have started out telling it like it is, but always as things esculate news sources become “checkmated” by owners, editors and others when they don’t carry what ever political side that rises with the top people.

Ukrinform is the Ukrainian National Informational Agency, the state-run propaganda service.

Note the progression of this propaganda meme.

Ukrinform puts it out.

Pyatt retweets the tweet from Ukrinform,

The The Embassy of Ukraine then tweets “Ambassador Pyatt says...”
https://twitter.com/UkraineEmbNL/status/493421746390069248

Like I said, this fits the classic Obama/OFA meme pimping scheme.

Just to be sure I understand your claims:

1. The U.S. State Department did not disseminate this information.

2. The AP obtained it from a Ukrainian governmental source.

3. Such Ukrainian source fabricated this information.

4. The U.S. State Department has issued a statement denying that it issued this evidence.

5. Any claim that Russia is bombarding Ukraine from its own territory is false.

“so if or not any nukes left there remains to be seen”

No, I don’t think Ukraine has any nukes they didn’t destroy.

Between not being able to trust their own people wouldn’t sell them on the black market, Chernobyl, and the cash that the US was offering a dead-broke Ukraine at the time, I believe we got and disassembled them all.

If there were any, you can BET the Russians would have known exactly where they were, and would have already have taken them into custody, by now.

I'm not pro-Russian, I'm anti-Ukrainian after studying up on this conflict. It's an interesting story.

We keep slouching toward war, don’t we?

Who's "we"? Obama's not about to get involved in that situation.

John McCain has been involved in this from the start. John McCain tells Ukraine protesters: 'We are here to support your just cause in December of 2013. And right in Russia's back yard.

I’m confused but see this excerpt from Russia Today

The US State Department made no official statement – to the press or on its website – linked to the email release, but directed its followers on Twitter to the microblog account of Geoffrey Pyatt, ambassador to Kiev, who uploaded “new images of evidence.”

Pyatt did share images on his Twitter account, but did not include any additional information.

Washington also said that more details would be available on the website of its embassy in Ukraine. However, at the moment of publication, there were no updates to be found on the embassy’s site or on Pyatt’s blog on the same page.
