One of two preteens accused of stabbing a classmate 19 times to please a fictional horror character was ordered Friday to receive treatment rather than stand trial, based on doctors' testimony that she claims to see and have conversations with things others cannot - including unicorns and a Harry Potter villain.
Judge Michael Bohren ordered the 12-year-old girl evaluated and treated either in a hospital or in a juvenile detention center, where she currently is being held. Doctors have a year to get the girl to a point where she can help with her defense and go to trial. If they can't, she could be held at a treatment center.
According to court documents, the girls plotted for months to kill their friend to curry favor with Slender Man, a character in horror stories they read online.

There is another kid involved, one who got the real horror of all this in getting stabbed and who will have scars far deeper than the ones from the knife. I think I will save what sympathy I can muster for for the victim.
(Also famous for his paintings of people with pancakes.)
I would agree....but what happens to Morgan Geyser by age twenty-one? Odds on her being fully released into society? Odds of killing dozens or hundreds more? And how many other Morgan Geysers are there in society? A hundred?
You should be sentenced to life for posting that.
The girl (and all who claim mental illness) should go to trial regardless. I'm okay with involuntarily committing her to a mental institution for treatment during part of her sentence, but she should then serve the rest of her life in prison with no chance of parole if she is convicted of stabbing another child 19 times.
There was a whole Quincy episode on the need for such a ruling.
Absolutely, they did the crime, ergo they are guilty. You want hem to get treatment, great hold them in a treatment facility until they are well enough to serve the rest of the sentence in PRISION.
Well when I was 12 I tried to convince my father that "pro-Wrestling" was real too. As did most 12 year old boys at that time.
She has conversations with things others cannot.
I fully understand it Obama has the same problem.
Who is that former FReeper?
OK, I got it now.....
They’re making crap up. They wanted to kill their classmate and they’re making a game out of it.
Look at the flowers, girls...
We have a winner!
For the record and those of us who are old and uninformed
Unicorns and Harry Potter? Really, this is the best could think up? And the doctors bought it? Unicorns?
We have a white hut resident and most of congress with those same issues.
That could be Obama, for all we know.
What is that in reference to?
In the last season’s “Walking Dead,” a little girl called “Lizzie” called the Zombies “her friends.” She tried to prevent the adults from “killing” them.
She murdered her own sister so she would turn into a walker to prove walkers “weren’t bad.”
Frightened Lizzie would harm a baby left in their care, a character called “Carol” took Lizzie out to a pasture and told Lizzie to “look at the flowers, Lizzie.”
You don’t see her shoot Lizzie, but you hear the gunshot. That episode freaked a lot of people out.
Did I miss anything, Vince?
LOL! Thanks the explanation.
Her father was proud of her fascination with slendrman.
