We wanted to share the results of a poll we conducted last week in the Louisiana Senate race. It's good news for conservatives.
The survey shows that Col. Rob Maness (R-LA) has climbed into double digits in this three-person race and is now surging. Here are the results:
Mary Landrieu (D-LA) 43% Bill Cassidy (R-LA) 32% Rob Maness (R-LA) 16% Other 1% Undecided 8%
As you may know, Col. Maness started this race with no name awareness, no money, and no organization. But thanks to his hard work, your financial support, and a winning message, that has begun to change.
In March, his support was only 3%. It rose to 8% by June and has now doubled again to 16% in less than two months. At this rate, he will be in second place in October and make the run-off with Landrieu in November.
Col. Maness is surging because the establishment Republican in the race, Congressman Bill Cassidy, is an uninspiring candidate who offers voters no real choice over Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu.
Cassidy is essentially the same candidate as Landrieu except with an "R" next to his name. He has supported wasteful spending, higher taxes, and more debt. He even donated money to Mary Landrieu!
Bill Cassidy's weakness as a candidate can be seen in the hypothetical head-to-head contests with Mary Landrieu that we tested in our poll.
Cassidy trails Landrieu by 6 points despite having spent over $3 million, having the full support of the DC establishment, and having high name awareness.

Keep in mind the VOTE FRAUD (Hell any kind of fraud!) was invented in Louisiana.
Back during the 70s Louisiana switched to the “jungle primary” system. Someone could win a majority of votes during the primary and thus be the winner before the November general election.
Nobody much noticed or cared until a few years ago when the state ran into “uniform elections” hubbub. Now the “primary” is held in November on “Election Day”. Someone could win then and thus conform to the “uniform elections”. If no one gets a majority in November a runoff is held in December. The winner gets sworn in January with everyone else.
I’ve heard Maness radio spots, one with Sarah Palin endorsing him on-air, but none from Cassidy except one advertising a townhall meeting. If this poll is right, Maness may have courted a big chunk of LA’s conservative base out from under Cassidy.
16% is not a surge; he should drop out. He may be a great guy, but he’s only splitting the vote and it will benefit Mary in the long run. Cassidy could win in November. The times are too critical for fanciful candidates believing lightning will strike.
This must be something Edwin Ewards dreamed up. Sort of like a street shell game, shuffle, shuffle and nobody ‘cept Edwin knew which shell hid the pea.
You are right.
Bull.
What do Louisianan’s (?) see in Cassidy? What’s his winning message?
Does Maness come out strong against ANY kind of amnesty?
Cassidy trails Landrieu by 6 points ......

I’m no fan of Cassidy, for sure, but Mary Landrieu should be down double digits in the polls. What’s wrong with my Louisiana neighbors?
Yeah, Cassidy is the same as Landrieu ... except that he’s pro-life, pro-gun, pro-marriage, pro-national-security, pro-low-taxes, pro-religious-freedom and pro-right-to-work, while Landrieu is none of those things. But, hey, Cassidy cast a bad vote once or twice, so we might as well keep the 90% liberal Democrat incumbent, huh?
Only Cassidy has a chance of getting 50%+1 in November (thus ousting Landrieu once and for all), and, in tbe case of a one-on-one run-off, Cassidy has by far the best odds of beating Landrieu. Are there stronger, more stridently conservative Republicans in Louisiana with the background and skill set to defeat Landrieu? Sure, but none of them is running for the Senate. So Cassidy isn’t perfect, but he’s leagues better than Landrieu, and the choice in November couldn’t be clearer.
I know that Louisiana has pretty screwed up politics, but can anyone explain how they will have a December runoff if the general Election is in November?
How can 2 Rs be running against Mary?

OK, you’ve apparently been missing in action for awhile. LA has what they call a “Jungle” Primary. All candidates, of all Parties, are on one ballot on Election Day in November. If no candidate gets at least one vote over 50%, then the top two vote-getters are in the run-off on Dec. 6th. It can be two Pubbies or two Dems or one of each. Weird? Yes, but this is LA. If the control of the Senate comes down to LA, we won’t know who has control, Dems or Pubbies, until after Dec. 6th.
All Maness has to do is come in second in November. There’s going to be a runoff one way or the other.

But, but, but...... Karl Rove and Mitch McConnell said Maness can’t beat Landrieu in the General.
I havent heard his position on even a single issue.

Do you live in Louisiana? Shame on you if you do and are so uninformed. If not, get off your butt, show a little initiative and do this thing called a “Google Search”.
See my Reply to Tailgunner Joe in Post #33.
So there is no primary? Odd.

Yes, there is. In LA, they call it a “Jungle” Primary and it’s held on Election Day. Believe it or not, most of the time there are not a gazillion candidates on the ballot and one person usually wins. That won’t happen this time. There WILL be a run-off on Dec. 6.
Your Post #22 is right on! The Jungle Primary on Election Day insures a bigger voter turn out.
16% is not a surge; he should drop out. He may be a great guy, but hes only splitting the vote and it will benefit Mary in the long run.

The last time I checked, odawg, Louisiana is still in the United States of America where a citizen has the right, and actually an obligation, to run for elective office. Since when do we have to “bow out” and defer to others because they are lifelong politicians. Cassidy has supported and voted for Democrats in the past. He voted for Michael Dukakis against Reagan. He’s even given money to Mary Landrieu’s campaign in the past. Maybe Rob Mansss doesn’t want two DemocRATS to have the election handed to them. Yes, I’m talking about Bill Cassidy and Senator Thunder Thighs.
Bill Cassidy, is an uninspiring candidate.......

If that isn’t the understatement of the year.
Yes, it was E. Edwards idea. He was running for governor, I think, against J. B. Johnston. Edwards barely won the primary against Johnston, and it left a bad taste in his mouth. He then came up with idea of the “jungle primary” which he, and his fellow democrats, thought would be easier to win. The republicans then got the idea of just having one contestant run. The democrats would then split up the vote, and the republican would get enough to get into a runoff.
That lasted until the republicans became a truly effective state wide party. Now elections draw multiple democrats and multiple republicans all mixing it up to the confusion of the voters and themselves.
Yea. Cassidy and Landrieu aren’t the same. Cassidy is politically sympathetic to conservatives while Landrieu is sympathetic to liberals though they both will pander.
They both are thoroughly invested in politics. That doesn’t make Cassidy a bad guy. It just means he’s not the best guy.
Put it to you this way, if Cassidy and Maness were both put on the spot, I know precisely what Maness would say and do. Cassidy, I have a good idea but I don’t have that certainty. If Maness is a phony, he’s doing a good job at faking sincerity.
I will vote Maness in November but I would vote Cassidy if I need to in December. I believe my sentiments are common.
