Yahoo Liberals Bemoan the "Racism" of Apple

Apparently, Apple’s problem (who knew the world’s most profitable company had a problem?... I mean, aside from bendable i-phones?) is that their executives are all “old white guys.” According to Yahoo Finance, the tech sector (in general) is suffering from a minority deficiency.

According to Yahoo Finance, you just can’t help but notice that Apple events are essentially one long “parade of middle-aged white guys who came on stage to reveal the company’s latest and greatest.” Strong words for a website that regularly features Henry Blodget, Aaron Task, and Ben Stein. (And Henry Blodget is even barred from the securities exchange for life. . . Yet he still gets air time on Yahoo. Maybe Yahoo should branch out to the Charles Paynes and Ben Carsons of the world?)

The article goes on to bemoan the fact that women and minorities seem absent from the tech executive field. Of course, no one can point to any sort of actual discrimination. After all, it’s not as if the companies are swarming with minorities that are routinely denied promotions. . . They simply don’t have a high percentage of minority representation on their boards.

Which isn’t surprising – given that minorities (by their very nature) will comprise a small portion of the overall hierarchy. Keep in mind that the very Yahoo article that decries the “white guy” culture in the tech industry also points out that only 5.7% of employed women in the US work in the computer industry, and only about 2% of women have a degree in a high-tech field. But yeah. . . We should hire more women – regardless of their competency – in an effort to make Yahoo feel better about the capitalistic nature of Apple.

After all, we shouldn’t let statistics – or Martin Luther King Jr.’s “color blind” philosophy – get in the way of affirmative action liberalism. According to the New York Times, McKinsey & Company found that the companies with more women on their corporate boards far outperformed the average company in return on equity and other measures. Operating profit was 56 percent higher.

Ok, great. Women are good for the bottom line. Clearly, if there is one thing the most profitable company on the face of the planet needs, it is to be operating at 56 percent higher margins. Quick, let’s hire Rosie the Riveter and watch Apple’s revenues sky rocket.

It’s not that I have anything against Rosie (or riveters)… I just don’t like gender-based hiring decisions. For that matter, I don't like race based hiring decisions either. Call me a traditionalist, but maybe we should judge people on their qualifications (which Apple has apparently judged adequately) rather than their sex or race?

The goal of the self-proclaimed Civil Rights advocates seem to have shifted from a color blind society to one of affirmative "inclusivity". To the American left, inclusivity and adherence to liberal ideology trump all other market forces. While Apple continues to post handsome profits, and the world carries on in Laissez-faire fashion, Yahoo liberals will continue to bemoan the success of firms that judge people on the content of their character (and the competency of their actions) rather than the color of their skin.

So, sure. . . Apple’s “problem” is that they are run by a bunch of old white guys. I guess that’s why the default color for an i-phone is white.

Racists.

Ok, great. Women are good for the bottom line.

Or conversely, companies with high profit margins can afford to take on affirmative action hires.

And don’t forget, that lack of “diversity” is only a problem when the entity in question is majority white, majority male, or especially combination of the two. If it’s majority-black or majority-female, there’s no need for any enforced “diversity”. We see the same thing concerning majority-white neighborhoods, schools, and nations.

Looks like Apple has the same 'problem' as the USA itself: it was founded and built by 'old white guys', or at least by young whites guys who grew older.

All these complainers should just go find the nations and corporations founded and built by old guys with different skin colors.

that the very Yahoo article that decries the “white guy” culture

Why is Yahoo so down on my culture?

I hear how bad it is that white people are successful or "cling" to notions like the Constitution, rule of law, self-sufficiency, etc.

I've read several liberal bigots say that one day "they'll get old and die off anyway".

Racism and genocide in one simple thought. Just because they are too lazy to pull the trigger doesn't mean that marginalization and deathpanels aren't in their fantasy.

Today we are seeing the homofascists call for the excommunication of anyone who donated to the wildly successful referendum preserving traditional marriage in California.

They can't win at the ballot box but they can muscle over those who won't stand up to them. And it could be any DNC-"identity group" that comes gunning for the "establishment" (old guard).

That is exactly right. Let these minorties with a chip on the shoulder go out and start their own companies.

Apparently few people of color or women get tech degrees. This is probably partly explainable by the fact that many women lack logic, spending time fighting for their four bux a month birth control at the expense of higher food prices, higher gas prices and less jobs. Likewise the folks of color who spend their time mulling their discontent and getting college degrees in ethnic culture or some equally invalid drivel. The tech field requires a logical mind which seems sadly lacking in the mostly Obummer voters.

Apparently the very successful Indian and Asian men who invent big tech products do not count as being not old and not white.

I don’t see the problem. After all, those “old white guys”, didn’t build Apple; right Dear Leader?

Blacks used to be inventors but gave it up because whining and complaining till they got free stuff became more profitable.

In today’s liberal economy business is evaluated for it’s
tokens alone. No matter how successful a business is if
it has no tokens, it’s deemed a failure. And it’s a
one way street.

we really need a world where education, medicine, science and technology are all delivered by affirmative action hires. Good idea! Look what it did for government.

...only about 2% of women have a degree in a high-tech field.

Believe me, a lot of high-tech colleges and universities are aware of this and are actively recruiting women. Indeed, they are getting the type of reverse discrimination that blacks often get on admissions committees. If you are female and can fog a mirror, apply for a scholarship in a computer tech field...your chances of getting one are pretty good.

Our former culture and legal system are from Europe, and its historical basis is those who survived, usually in gender specific roles, in that environment. The accomplishments of that European based era of invention and legal system are beyond anything imaginable before it started.

As we become more of a minority nation, we're adapting to those cultural and legal standards. I can't think of much that we value that came from Hispanic or African cultures. Add to that, when we practice regime change in the middle east and other places, we put in place governments that are not suitable for those environments and the people who live there.

I don't think I'm allowed to even think these thoughts anymore, let alone embrace them as my opinions.

“This is probably partly explainable by the fact that many women lack logic,”

Well it is a scientifically proven fact that women are
bad luck on ships. And besides who ate the apple? I tell
you the defining moment that gave liberalism a foothold
in this country was the day women won suffrage. And don’t
forget Rachel Carson and Margaret Sanger, the two
individuals who are individually responsible for more deaths
than any single person in history.

There I’ll take the flaming for you.

Oh oh the PC crowd is firing the first shots in another war with corporate America. The NFL has been brought to their knees so Apple’s next. Ironically, liberals go nuts over Apple products and that company bends over backwards to be politically correct. Gees, liberals are never happy and always angry. Destroying successful people and their companies is all that seems to bring them joy these days. It’s a shame Steve Jobs is no longer with us. I’m sure he would have read that Yahoo article and would have told the PC crowd to jump in a lake.

Maybe so, but I just saw where women out-strip men 58% to 42% in getting a college education, so I have to ask in what disciplines are they receiving degrees?
Ethnic studies, feminism, underwater basket weaving? Our “institutions of higher learning” evidently are failing in their mission to deliver women to the scientific workplace. But in concert with this, “women” continue to complain about this nostrum of unequal pay and/or being kept out of the board room. An MBA doesn’t get you a CEO job in the Silicon Valley, because you have to understand the underlying technology in your company’s products at the minimum.
