When guys find out I’m a virgin [author is a 26 year old female Christian]
Salon ^ | October 5, 2014 | Ellen Burkhardt

Posted on 10/13/2014 3:06:55 PM PDT by grundle

There’s no good time to tell a guy you’re a virgin. First date? Too much, too soon. Wait until the third date and you risk being considered a tease. Second date? Perhaps, but at this point you’re both still fretting over whether or not to eat another piece of bread; delving into sexual histories (or lack thereof) seems a bit extreme. So: There’s no good time to tell a guy you’re a virgin. Even worse? Telling him you’re waiting until marriage.

Even worse? Telling him you’re waiting until marriage.

Why is it worse? You're losing someone who doesn't care about you.

Read the article, and see what she says about the "devout Christian" she dated.

I read the article. There are many so called Christian men like that, there are many so called Christian women who are just as bad, I've dated my share. But that is not all of them, there are good ones too who are sincere in their faith.

Actually the sexual revolution has destroyed our ability to know the inner person before we jump into a long term relationship. Putting sex on the side gives one the opportunity to experience the entire person and, should there not be a match, walk away from the relationship intact. My wife and I were friends long before we dated. By being friends, I was able to identify those traits that endeared her to me and likewise those that caused me to hesitate. Knowing the pros outnumbered the cons (especially after she gave up smoking), we began to date and things evolved from there. I advised all of my daughters to proceed slowly and hopefully they heeded my advice as we’ve not encountered a divorce to date.

Chastity until marriage? Yes”

Still unmarried at 27?

Back when people where still generally chaste until marriage, they had a name for that:

Old Maid.

There’s a reason why chaste until married equaled mostly teenaged marriages (well, actually more than one reason, but I digress).

Dying a virgin is not what God approves of?

So, he wouldn’t approve of Christ - the son who he said was his beloved - who died without taking a wife and certainly did not approve of fornication?

So, please teach me - what does God say on this matter, exactly?

I mostly agree, but it is, to some degree, relative. I think most piercings look stupid, but I have no particular objection to a woman piercing her ears for (non-crazy) earrings. Some people would object ALL piercings, earrings included. Same with tattoos.

Within the range of the non-radical, there are varying degrees of acceptable. The author's nose ring looks dumb but it doesn't radically or permanently alter her appearance, nor does it have much "shock value."

There's also no good reason that you have to tell.

Well if she is dating, the subject is going to come up one way or another.

Do you think Christ was the model for man in that sense? I don’t see it that way.

He was the sacrificial lamb.

He couldn’t get married and have children. Imagine the idea of having His decedents on earth. Imagine His wife and the burden on her, not a perfect being.

I would submit that when it comes to marriage, Christ would support men and women looking to other models, except in the sense he was faithful to God, as a man and a woman should be to each other, and of course God as well.

He didn’t intend for men and women to remain celibate. We were admonished to become fruitful and multiply.

I’m not trying to pick a fight with religions that believe in celibacy. I do think it leads to problems. It’s not man or a woman’s nature here on earth to remain celibate.

These are my views, and I’m not seeking to say that anyone who does this is committing a sin. I’m just saying that from all the evidence, men and women were designed to develop relationships and be joined.

I’m not going to take someone to task who has been led to believe differently.

I may have come on a bit harsh in my comment, but I do believe God gave us the gift of socialization. We are different for a reason. We compliment each other.

“I wouldn’t buy a car without first taking a test drive.”

Without examining the metaphor, let’s just assume you are not a Christian, which makes the discussion moot.

““Good Christian” men could not understand that she still valued sex within marriage and she never found a husband. (25 years later, she’s still sweet and single and unloved because she refused to bend her morality to the fashion of the day.) Even the men in her church became impatient. They’d make a commitment as far as ‘girlfriend’ went, but not marriage. Not a full year of holding out for that special love. (And no. She’s not ugly. Cute as a button.)”

25 years later she is better off for not bending her morality, as you put it.

I’m curious. What church was it with all these fake Christian men?

“Read the article, and see what she says about the “devout Christian” she dated. “

That anecdote is why Salon published the article.

Just because a woman has a *baby* doesn’t mean that she’s easy or a slut. At the age of 43, she has only slept with one man and that man was her husband and is the father of her child.

Having a baby doesn't mean anything, but a woman still playing hard to get in her 40's is narcissistic and delusional to the extreme. What does she think it's made of? Gold?
