Mark Steyn: Ted Cruz Worth Watching for 2016

Keep a close eye on Texas Sen. Ted Cruz as a leading contender for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, says Mark Steyn, a leading conservative commentator from Canada.

"What I like about Cruz is that he doesn't preemptively seed the ground," Steyn said Tuesday on the "Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"When he's asked the question that's framed from a left-wing Democrat media perspective, he doesn't accept the premise of it. He says, 'No, no, no it's this way of looking at it.'

"Whether or not he's the nominee, it should be someone like that who actually does the Thatcher-Reagan thing of not preemptively seeding ground, but demanding that people actually move closer to where they are. That's what's very strong about Cruz."

Just for clarity, I believe Steyn is saying that Cruz doesn’t “cede” ground - which is to say that Cruz doesn’t allow liberals to use their favorite tactic of distorting language to frame an argument.

I was trying to figure out what “seeding ground” might have to do with this. Getting next year’s crops started?

I love Ted Cruz, he gets better every day.

this lends a lot of credibility to Cruz’s potential candidacy, in my way of thinking.

Steyn’s been making fun of the idea, calling Cruz ‘my fellow Canadian”, and that is particularly an obstacle Cruz’s many political enemies will use.

The pres candidate next will have to be a law and order guy who does not wimp out on anything, and who doesn’t accept attitudes such as:’[the government has] become our overlords through NSA spying, IRS intimidation and police brutality, not our employees which they used to be.’

Cruz is the only one for that job, and it needs to be done now before liberalism eats an entire generation

the GOPe has no interest in them or any other conservative or pro-AMERICA candidate. They are all part of taking our country down, GOPe candidates and politicians do it a little more slowly and pretend they've got no choice but to go along with amnesty and can't defund Obamacare, etc. so Ted and sarah will have to run third party. And I hope they do. Because the GOPe will never accept them as the presidential ticket. They will tear them and their families lives apart before that happens.

Correct and put the question in proper context , then answer it. That’s what Newt Gingrich is so good at, that quality will help Senator Cruz in debates, wouldn’t surprise me to see the Senator get a “standing O” in a presidential debate.

I have no doubt that that Ted Cruz should be the next President. He is a brilliant thinker and a good man. I hope that someone like Romney or Huckabee, or even the Paul family will recognize the opportunity that Ted Cruz offers for a new birth of freedom and give him early support with their large nationwide organizations. I would hate to see Ted have to spend 6 months building a nationwide campaign from scratch while GOPe guys like Bush or Huckabee (if he chooses) get a head start with money and local people.
