TARRANT, Alabama -- A woman caught shoplifting eggs in Tarrant Saturday didn't leave with handcuffs and a court date. Thanks to a Tarrant police officer, she left with food for her family.

Officer William Stacy was called to the Dollar General on Pinson Valley Parkway when employees caught the woman trying to steal a dozen eggs, Tarrant Police Chief Dennis Reno said.

The woman had her young children in the car. She told Officer Stacy that she was only stealing because she was trying to feed her children.

Stacy talked with Dollar General, and they said they wouldn't prosecute. So Stacy made an offer.

I believe this is far more common than most of the recent news we're hearing concerning police. You certainly won't see this on CNN, MSNBC, or the network news. I doubt you'll see it on Fox News either.

So Dollar General decided to leave something in the field (reference to much older law), after talking to a good cop. Great Story.

Eggs are not in the same category as cigars.

Now watch tomorow, when she pulls this same trick at another Dollar General with another young black make officer. Only this time, she’ll be getting cake batter.
“For her child’s birthday’... right.

I've seen about three articles like this on Face-book recently. In one case the cop pulled over a woman that didn't have a legal car seat for her little boy. He took the lady to a store and bought one for her and put the child in it for her. No arrest or ticket.

Oh this story can’t possibly be correct after all O just told us that the problems are deeply rooted. /s

I am with you. I know that not all police officers are good guys but the great majority of them that I have met are top notch. Decent folks doing the best job they can to protect and serve

I have never had to, but, when my kids were little, if I had no money, I would have stolen to feed them.

I don’t agree with any form of stealing but if the store wasn’t going to press charges, I don’t disagree with the officer’s action.

Personally, it would suit me fine if we sent thieves on their second offense to Saudi Arabia to be sentenced.

Most are just good folks just doing their jobs. They’re trying to make a living and then make it home everyday to be with their families.

She told Officer Stacy that she was only stealing because she was trying to feed her children.

Bulls hit. There are alphabet agencies out the wazoo trying to give away money for this sort of thing. She wasn't forced to steal food for her kids.

Yeah well maybe her request had not gone through yet. It was a dozen eggs. What would you do if you had no money and your kids was hungry? She stole eggs, the only thing you can do with them is eat them. Yes, she was wrong, but, I understand and evidently so did the officer.

Thank you. Some charity came up with the stat that 1 of 4 children in America goes hungry every night. How the heck do they get away with these barefaced lies? Food stamps pay almost $200 per household member per month. Children from poor families also qualify for free school lunches.

You're not cynical enough. Plenty of food stamp recipients sell their food allowances for cash, presumably to buy other things they value more.

We do not know the why, all we know is her kids were hungry. If you had no money, would you steal to feed your kids?

What’s going to happen when she runs out of eggs again? This (even if the woman is sincere here) is just a temp fix.

Where’s the daddy? In the old days, daddy’s were responsible for bringing home the bacon (and eggs) to feed his wife and kids.
