I think I’m becoming one of Teddy’s Cruzzers. Win ugly or easy but win.
Those Reagan electoral maps alway make me sad and nostalgic.
They were the product of a WWII generation that is no longer with us. And gone is that generation’s work ethic, moral values and common sense.
The GOP will never see a map like that again. Best we can hope for is to regain CO, OH, FL and NC.
I liked it lot better when we were BLUE and the Commie-Dems were RED.
They could win states like Oregon if they would make an effort and have a candidate the independent minded people could respect. Cruz is that guy.
The convention was incumbent red challenger blue. The 2000 election changed it by somehow permanently making dims blue and pubs red. Btw I agree with you.
This guy has articulated the situation beautifully. Everything he said is true.
Shamed? You been shamed? I’ve not been shamed...
Am I “afraid” of some stupid pollster? Nawww...
Hardly...They just don’t ask. If you are going to skew your poll you will create the answers you want.
I think Ted would be a very good President. And it wouldn’t be ugly...
What the author meant by winning ugly was not being afraid to “offend” some people by standing for principles.
However, it occurs to me that you might be making a rhetorical point instead of arguing against the authors premise. Inflection is difficult to judge on the Internet.
That’s a good point about the middle of the road vote.
Why run a weak liberal Republican when those who are middle of the road will vote for the Democrat every time.
He did win ugly, it’s just that there is no such thing as an ugly win or a pretty loss.
Cruz may do very well with the Mexican / Hispanic vote.
He received 41% of the “Hispanic” vote in Texas in his senatorial victory.
But you are so right about the World War II generation.
Most of them were in their late 50’s through mid 60’s during the 1980 general election.
My dad was 60 in November 1980. If he were still alive, he would be 96 in November 2016. Some of these WW II guys are still around, but most of them are not, and they are sorely missed.
One of the reasons (one of many) Liberals and the media (but, I repeat myself) fear Cruz is because they know he is a principled man and will not be swayed by either their bullying or seductive tactics. Millions are looking for a leader to lead this country out of this mess and Cruz is obviously a principled leader and can do it.
My greatest fear is being able to overcome the massive voter fraud which exists. I am convinced that cost Romney several key states in 2012 and nearly cost him North Carolina. Any major state with less than a 5% margin is at risk because of illegal voting and the programming of voting machines to switch votes from one candidate to the other - and we know which candidate and Party is the "other". In places like Oregon where they mail you the ballots it must be easy enough for union goons to "harvest" ballots by collecting them en-masse from people who aren't going to bother to vote or offering a bribe for them so they can fill them out and turn them in themselves.
For Freepers wondering what happened with this country, for me it started in 1992 when Ross Perot split the WWII generation vote and we allowed Slick Willie in there.
Then in 1998 the country made the seminal decision that moral values didn’t matter when they allowed Slick to stay in office after the Lewinsky debacle.
By 2000 when Slick left office, most of the WWII generation had retired from any positions of power in business, culture, etc.
Brave new world the last 15 years.
At least 3 times a week, I spent my evenings at the local gasthaus, and we had continuing discussions about the race. Fortunately by that time, my German was very conversational, and allowed me to offer my perspective. I spoke of American civics, intermixed with American and world history. I kept driving home the point that the world is a safer place when America is strong. That theme particularly holds true to this day.
A couple of weeks after Inauguration Day, and after our hostages had been released, I was invited to sit at the Stammtische, a table reserved for family and close friends of the family. It's an honor that I continue to cherish.
I have not felt the same way about a candidate since Ronald Reagan. My vote will go to Ted Cruz, and no one else, and my tagline reinforces that thought.
Amen, Friend. GO TED!!!
We cannot complain about voter fraud when we are not doing everything we can to get ours to vote. I know for a fact there were people who voted every election and did not vote for Romney because he insulted their beliefs. The same happened to Monica and will happen with Bush/whoever the swish the Repubs elect.
You win the election you can make fraud harder to do on the next election.
