We shall see. You go to great lengths and stretch what you consider the truth to fit an agenda against cops, it appears. Try going without them when you need them. A lot of people ate crow when they pre-tried and convicted the Cop down in Ferguson, MO. As facts dribbled out, the Cop was right and the media, race baiters, and cop haters were wrong. I smell the same here. That coop had no ax to grind and every reason to want to go home that night to his 8 month’s pregnant wife and two children. You are misjudging this cop. The only thing is will he be railroaded or not when the facts and the other side’s version of events come out.

I stand ready to change my opinion when facts are unearthed.

I hope you are the same.

BTW, I have no agenda against cops. Except that cops are part of the government, and I’m suspicious of the government and its powers, particularly when they’re lethal.

I always thought that suspicion of government power was an impeccably conservative POV.

But some seem to be suspicious of all government powers except those might likely to kill them dead.

“I always thought that suspicion of government power was an impeccably conservative POV.”

Do you include the military? Ate you a Rand Paul/Ron Paul Libertarian type?

You bet I’m suspicious of the military. That’s as conservative a position as exists.

Or have you never heard of the Federalist Papers? Our military has been largely a force for good in this country and the world because we as a people have been suspicious of it and kept it under control.

What, I’m supposed to think ordinary people become paragons of virtue when you put them in uniform and give them guns a legal authority, under proper circumstances, to kill people?

Isn’t it obvious that police and military attract disproportionately a personality type that likes to exercise [physical power over others? Not all, or even most, but certainly there are incentives for such types to join up.

To the credit of their organizations, many of these are weeded out, and the remainder are kept more or less under control most of the time.

BTW, I’ve been thinking about some of your previous posts, and I’m backing off somewhat. The thing that leads me to believe there MAY be more to the story is how calm the cop was, especially after he saw he was being taped. Doesn’t seem likely to me that would be the case if he believed he’d just murdered a man live on camera.

Unless he is really stupid or some kind of psychopath.

So I’m no longer at “he’s a murderer.” I’ve dropped back to leaning guilty, rather than guilty. Open to evidence on either side, of course.

Not a libertarian, though I lean that way.

I like libertarian theory, but have read enough history to know it won’t work in practice.

The government IS a necessary evil. So my suggestion is to keep it as small a necessary evil as possible.

There’s hope for you. Just don’t pre-judge until all the facts are in. You can see what pre-judging did in Ferguson against that Cop. Plus, if you had an 8 month pregnant wife at home, and you had been on the police force for 5 years without a strike aaainst you, except for an accusation by another black male with a record as to use of a tazor for which he was found justified to use, do you think you would be arbitrarily plugging someone just for chuckles? No you’d want to be going home in peace to your wife and family that night for dinner. So, as I said, we will see. I too will keep an open mind if all the facts point otherwise after both sides have been heard from. By the way, I still smell a whiff of Libeertarian on you, lol.

On Conservative Treehouse there is a screengrab that shows the suspect on top of the officer, who is prone, in the very first frame of the video. Then, upon standing and continuing to fight the suspect, the officer has a taser wire in his chest and another in or around his leg. As they break contact, the officer draws his pistol and begins firing, taser leads still embedded in him. If the suspect had the taser at that point he can still administer incapacitating shocks to the officer from up to 35 feet.
