Freddie Gray's death ruled a homicide, police officers charged

Prosecutors ruled that Freddie Gray's death was a homicide. Friday morning, State attorney Marilyn Mosby announced that all six officers involved in the incident have been charged and warrants are out for their arrests.

"Six officers are each facing multiple charges, including manslaughter, assault, misconduct in office and false imprisonment: Lt. Brian Rice, Sgt. Alicia White, Officer William Porter, Officer Garrett Miller, Officer Edward Nero and Officer Caesar Goodson," The Baltimore Sun reports. "Goodson, who drove the van, has been charged with second-degree murder."

Mosby described how police arrested Gray on no grounds, violated police procedures by cuffing his hands and legs the van without putting him in a seat belt, and repeatedly failed to provide him with medical attention.

On April 12, Gray was arrested for carrying a knife and his spine was somehow partially severed while in police custody.

Mosby said that the knife was legal and that the officers “failed to establish probable cause for an arrest.”

Gray underwent major surgery, lapsed into a coma, and died on April 19.

“Mr. Gray was no longer breathing at all" when he was removed from the wagon.

His death sparked protests across Baltimore that escalated into riots.

"We know he was not buckled in the transportation wagon as he should have been. No excuses from me. Period," City Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said. "We know our police employees failed to get him medical attention in a timely manner multiple times."

Possible. When you engage in criminal activity on a daily basis, you’re always guilty of something.

This is the first time I’ve seen the officers involved identified by name. Is it really the first time?

In the past few similar situations the names have been released (often under demand by the protesters) before charges are filed or not filed. If thats not the case here, why didn’t it happen sooner and why weren’t the protesters making a bigger deal about it?

“Why should they walk off the job?”

To prove the point that they ARE the good cops and that the community is chaos without them.

This needs to be repeated and repeated:

One thing we know, EVERYONE involved from top-to-bottom is a Democrat, no Republicans in Baltimore.

Like this DA, the police chief and Al Sharpton's helpless friend, the mayor.

“To prove the point that they ARE the good cops and that the community is chaos without them.”

So, to prove the point that they are the good cops, they should walk off the job in solidarity with the bad cops? That makes no sense to me.

What makes you think they are bad cops to begin with?

Confused....Arrested on the 12th. Died on the 17th. Something is very wrong here.

They said he wasn't breathing at all when they took him from the van. So they got him going again how and who???

Do good cops often wind up with a dead guy in the back of their van?

Why not? Isn't that how DC runs now? Congress, the President and alphabet agencies ignore the Constitution and leave it to SCOTUS to determine whether they were right.

He was in a coma from the 12th (when he was arrested) until the 17th (when he died). He was apparently rescuscitated multiple times in the hospital, but never regained consciousness

Why do you care why he would run? People are allowed to run. His knife was legal too.

Why would Freddie run for no reason?

Why should the police pursue him if they had no reason to?

I find it hard to believe that all 5 cops were bad cops. Time will tell. But bad things happen to people when good cops are absent. THAT needs to be stressed.

Law abiding citizens will become acceptable collateral damage (by the agitators) Lest an alleged criminal be hurt.
